The Feelies – Crazy Rhythms CD+MP3 (Bar/None)
The Feelies – Good Earth CD+MP3 (Bar/None)

Crazy Rhythms and Good Earth are masterworks of perfectly honed minimalist rock & roll that leaps and darts into the corners of the listeners consciousness. Rolling Stone called Crazy Rhythms one of the 100 best albums of the 1980s. Fans of the Velvet Underground, Wire and Brian Eno’s early solo albums will surely appreciate their forces at work. Includes downloadable bonus tracks.

A Fine Frenzy – Bomb In A Birdcage CD (Virgin)
While Bomb In A Birdcage has the same beauty and musical depth as the 2007 debut One Cell In A Sea, it is improved by a wonderfully developed pop sensibility. This album features eleven infectious, bubbly fun tracks infused with gorgeous lyrics and danceable beats.

Taken By Trees – East Of Eden CD/LP (Rough Trade)
East Of Eden is the result of an extraordinarily adventurous recording process in Pakistan with local musicians. The album also includes the short film ”Taweel Safari – The Longest Journey” that was shot in Pakistan while recording. Features guest vocals from Noah Lennox of Animal Collective on “Anna.”

Jim O’Rourke – Visitor CD/LP (Drag City)
The Visitor is a seriously all-O’Rourke affair: all the sounds you hear are Jim and Jim alone, re-contextualizing everything he’s done over the years and throwing out the bullshit. The one thing you won’t hear is his voice.

Os Mutantes – Haih Or Amortecedor CD (Anti)
What fan would have dared dream that an impromptu, one-off reunion at London’s Barbican Theater in 2006 would lead to the first new music from Os Mutantes in over 30 years? Yet here is Haih, conceived by Mutantes founder Sergio Dias with writing collaborations from Brazilian legends Tom Ze and Jorge Ben (who wrote the band’s original hit ”Minha Menina”)

Phish – Joy CD (Jemp)
On Joy, Phish joins forces with producer Steve Lillywhite for 10 new songs, many of which were debuted live during the band’s return to the stage this spring and summer. Fans who had the opportunity to catch Phish during their first proper comeback tour got a taste of nine new tunes, when they showcased swinging blues riffs on ”Kill Devil Hills,” interplays between guitarist Trey Anastasio and pianist Page McConnell during ”Ocelot”” and the long, winding, jam-friendly ”Light.”

Polvo – In Prism CD/2xLP (Merge)
“Polvo spent 1990-1998 giving voice to a chorus of discrete rock & roll ideas that really hadn’t been heard before. While there was nothing wrong before, it’s now so much more right-perhaps because after ten years, after other bands and their tours and records and worries (if they had any), none of the peripheral stuff matters anymore.” — Mike Wolf, NYC

Raekwon – Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt. II CD (Iceal)
Features cameos from many industry heavyweights such as the Wu-Tang Clan, Jadakiss Styles P, and many others. It also features tracks from the who’s who of hip-hop producers such as the RZA, Eric Sermon, Dr. Dre, Scram Jones, Pete Rock, Marley Marl, Allah Mathematics and J-Dilla.

Rodrigo Y Gabriela – 11:11 CD (ATO)

Vivian Girls – Everything Goes Wrong CD/LP (In The Red)
Brooklyn’s Vivian Girls have taken their time with this new album and recorded it in six days –rather than the three their debut took — though many of the songs were still recorded in single takes. Everything Goes Wrong is a darker, moodier album than its predecessor, with a couple tracks clocking in at almost twice the length of anything on their debut. That said, the influences remain the same: The Ramones, ’60s girl groups, surf, indie pop, etc.

Sondre Lerche – Heartbeart Radio CD (Rounder)
His fifth studio album mixes acoustic guitars and grand gestures of orchestral pop with elements of anything from ’50s jazz via ’60s and ’70s Brazilian psych-folk, to state-of-the-art ’80s pop masters such as Prefab Sprout, Scritti Politti and Fleetwood Mac.

Lord Newborn & The Magic Skulls – Lord Newborn & Magic Skulls CD/LP (Ubiquity)
Lord Newborn & The Magic Skulls is the collaborative project of esteemed sound scientists Money Mark, Shawn Lee, and Tommy Guerrero. In the winter of 2008 they locked themselves away in Money Mark’s Los Angeles-based studio for two weeks. A tasty three-way meeting of the minds resulted in this funk-inflicted collection of beats ‘n’ breaks, wrapped-up in a sunny West Coast musical tortilla that’s smothered in as much jazz and prog-rock as it is in soulful psychedelia.

Maserati – Passages CD (Temporary Residence)
Featuring all four tracks from their limited-edition split LP with Zombi, as well as their remix LP (featuring DFA’s Tim Goldsworthy and !!!’s Justin Van Der Volgen), Passages is augmented with two previously unreleased tracks: the Moog-fueled meditative trance of Steve Moore’s ”Monoliths” remix, and the positively sublime emotional heft of ”Do You Hear The Nightbirds Calling?,” all remastered from the original master tapes and packaged with new artwork.

John Abercrombie – Wait Till You See Her CD (ECM)
With ECM chief Manfred Eicher producing, Wait Till You See Her finds Abercrombie, Mark Feldman (violin), Thomas Morgan (bass) and Joey Baron (drums) performing seven Abercrombie originals and the title track, a comparatively obscure Rodgers And Hart composition.

Come O Spirit brings together artists like Dave Bazan, Damien Jurado, Rosie Thomas, Dennison Witmer, The Welcome Wagon (featuring Sufjan Stevens) and Leigh Nash to revive 400 years of long-forgotten melodies and liturgical music. The brainchild of producers Isaac Wardell and Mason Neely, Come O Spirit interprets hymnody through lush, cinematic arrangements and a drop of Southern gothic mystique.

BLK JKS – After Robots CD/LP (Secretly Canadian)
By entangling township blues, fringe jazz and renegade dub into the DNA of prog, BLK JKS have provocatively pulled afro-futurism into a new century. After Robots has all the ingredients of a party record but this is not party music. It’s at times disorienting and overwhelming, but it always maintaining a cool, alluring mystique.

Boys Like Girls – Love Drunk CD (Sony)
Sophomore album from the Boston quartet. Love Drunk has been described as a happy medium between the pop/rock of the debut album and the more electronic sound of bands like The Killers and Franz Ferdinand.

Featuring all the members of The Olivia Tremor Control, as well as Jeff Mangum and Julian Koster of Neutral Milk Hotel. Thick with textures, layered percussion, angular guitars, vibrating strings, woodwinds, and brass.

The Clean – Mister Pop CD (Merge)
In 1978, The Clean were the seeds of New Zealand punk. They carved out a big sandbox for everyone to play in, and their influence resonated not only in NZ but around the world. Their new album Mister Pop sees The Clean continue the great pop pastiche. Circus ragas (“Moonjumper”), hazy sunset anthems (“In The Dreamlife You Need A Rubber Soul”), and the loose Dada approach to wordsmithery continue alongside “proper” lyrical forays and a few Autobahn-referential instrumental moments to boot (“Tensile”).

Chick Corea / Gary Burton – Crystal Silence: The ECM Recordings 1972-79 4xCD (ECM)
Personnel: Chick Corea (piano); Gary Burton (vibraphone). Recorded at Arne Bendiksen Studio, Oslo, Norway on November 6, 1972. This 1973 album of piano and vibraphone duets helped to put ECM Records on the map. Others might trace a line that began here and led to the wallpaper monotony of new age music. But Burton and Corea can’t be held responsible for that. Crystal Silence is filled with invention, surprise, humor, sadness, and tremendous verve.

Danko Jones – Never Too Loud CD (Bad Taste)
New album from the Canadian hard rock trio. Never Too Loud was recorded in the Foo Fighters’ Studio 606 in L.A. with Grammy Award winning producer Nick Raskulinecz.

Howie Day – Sound The Alarm CD (Sony)

Spencer Day – Vagabond CD (Concord Jazz)
Vocalist/songwriter/pianist Spencer Day is an artistic vagabond, a modern-day musical nomad. He has wandered amid the expansive and diverse landscape of American music, developing an artistic sensibility that borrows from numerous sources: jazz, musical theater, cabaret, soul, folk, traditional pop and contemporary pop are just the tip of the iceberg.

The Get Up Kids – Something To Write Home About CD+DVD+MP3 (Vagrant)

James Hand – Shadow On The Ground CD (Rounder)
James Hand, like Willie Nelson, Billie Joe Shaver, Ernest Tubb and Lefty Frizzell, hails from the central Texas prairie. There, in the honky-tonks, he has honed his musical craft and plied his trade by night, while working day jobs from training horses, to rodeo rider, to driving trucks. Shadow On The Ground features 11 original country gems, plus a stunning remake of the Nat King Cole classic, “Mona Lisa.”

Health – Get Color CD/LP+MP3 (Lovepump United)
Second album from L.A. noise-wonders. Get Color is an exuberant proclamation of noise, rock and electronic splendor. It’s a celebration of sound; pretty, harsh, soft and basked in a blanket of ethereal vocals.

Ben Neill – Night Science CD (Thirsty Ear)

California-based rockers’ new album was produced by Butch Walker (Sevendust, Fall Out Boy, P!nk), John Feldman (The Used, Story Of The Year). Special edition adds a DVD featuring a “making of the album” documentary, five live in-studio performances and more.

The Stone Roses – The Stone Roses CD/CD+DVD (Jive)
Meshing simple, exceedingly catchy hooks with rhythmic beats, The Stones Roses led the UK’s so-called “Madchester” scene straight into the US with their eponymous debut. The Stone Roses achieved one of the most successful fusions of classic pop songwriting and acid house culture, and managed to snare fans from both genres. By the end of 1989, their debut had landed on many a top-ten list for that year; NME even declared it “The Greatest Album Of All Time.” Double-disc edition adds a DVD featuring The Stones Roses live at the Blackpool Empress ballroom and videos.

Frank Turner – Poetry Of The Deed CD (Epitaph)
Frank Turner is an English folk singer-songwriter, and former vocalist of legendary UK punk band Million Dead. Like an earlier folksinger with roots in the punk movement, Billy Bragg, Turner spits out songs that are at once effortless and heartfelt, filled with venom, self-doubt, and love for the everyday people he meets in the street.

Wild Beasts – Two Dancers CD/LP (Domino)
Wild Beasts released their critically acclaimed debut album, Limbo Panto, last November. The band garnered a huge amount of attention in the UK. After several months of building a small buzz they finally made their way the U.S. playing six amazing shows at SXSW. They are quickly following up with their sophomore album, Two Dancers.

Strictly limited edition 7″ single offers a previously unreleased early mix of “Feel” (the opening track on the group’s 1972 debut LP and a selection from the forthcoming Keep An Eye On The Sky box set — coming 9/15). The B-side, “Mod Lang,” was originally remixed by a well-known British producer for a potential single release (augmenting the original recording with piano and additional percussion), but the group weren’t satisfied with the results, and it’s remained in the can since 1974, now exclusively unearthed for this release. Limited to 3500 copies.

Mars Volta – Octahedron 2xLP (Rodriguez Lopez)
That’s right, the full-length vinyl version of the new record, with pretty bells-and-whistles packaging designed by the band.
