Tori Amos – Diving Deep: Live 2xCD/2xLP (Decca)
Tori Amos has long been renowned for never playing the same show twice. Now, these unique live performances are captured in a new live album entitled Diving Deep recorded across Tori’s 2022-2023 Ocean to Ocean tour, which spanned 93 dates around the globe. The album features beloved tracks from Amos’s iconic back catalog, including hits such as “Cornflake Girl.” [An indie store exclusive color vinyl pressing is available.]
The Coward Brothers – The Coward Brothers CD/LP (New West)
The Coward Brothers are Elvis Costello and T-Bone Burnett. The exact relationship between Henry (T-Bone Burnett) and Howard Coward (Elvis Costello) remains ambiguous. They often referred to themselves as “One and a Half Brothers,” which might hint at their height difference or imply they were not actually siblings but were involved in an elaborate ruse. Their musical partnership, known as The Coward Brothers, was initiated by Smiley “Doc” Snipson, who discovered Henry Coward in 1956 and signed him for a UK tour… Their music, from early rock and roll hits to later, more introspective songs, is compiled in the album, The Coward Brothers. After years of silence, their story was explored in a radio program, revealing the complexity of their relationship and their enduring bond. Despite their tumultuous history, their music remains a testament to their unyielding spirit. [An indie store exclusive licorice red color vinyl pressing is available.]

Charie Parker – Bird In Kansas City CD/LP (Verve)
This new set of rare Charlie Parker recordings dating from between 1941-1951, most of them never having been heard before and some never even having been known to exist, chronicle Bird’s evolution from a blossoming soloist with the Jay McShann Band into a brilliant improviser who dominated the jazz landscape for decades to come. In addition to two unreleased 78s with the McShann band, this set offers two sets of private recordings made with local musicians and a very relaxed-sounding Parker.
Rosé – Rosie CD (Atlantic)
Debut studio album by the New Zealand and South Korean singer. “Rosé, the nightingale of the massively popular Korean girl group Blackpink, has flown the nest and launched her first solo album “Rosie.” She’s the first of the awesome foursome to release a full-length solo record, and in English at that. Across 12-tracks, the album studies heartache over lost loves (“It’s been two years and you’re still not gone/It doesn’t make sense that I can’t move on,” she sings on “Two Years”), missed chances (“Are we lovers or friends/’Cause it’s as good as it gets” in “Call it the End”) and ambivalence over situationships that probably should’ve been nipped in the bud but staggered along, strung by the power of lust and not much else. (That one is everywhere — particularly in the dubious boyfriends of “Toxic Till the End” and “Gameboy.”) Who can’t relate?” – Cristina Jaleru, AP
Alan Sparhawk – White Rose, My God CD/LP (Sub Pop)
Alan Sparhawk of Low’s solo debut for Sub Pop is at once a bold new, electro-pop-infused adventure, and an extension of the innovation and experimentation that drove his work as a member of Low. It is his first album since the tragic 2022 loss of his wife and partner in Low, Mimi Parker. Recorded primarily by Alan at his home, with additional work and mixing by co-producer and young Minneapolis musician Nat Harvie. [A crystal-clear vinyl pressing is available.]
State Champs – State Champs CD/LP (Pure Noise)
State Champs surges with the energy of The Finer Things (2013), Around The World And Back (2015), and Living Proof (2018). It expands on the Kings Of Tthe New Age (2022) blueprint. That beloved post-pandemic album proved the band will survive. State Champs now sees them thrive. Songs like “Silver Cloud,” “Clueless,” “Sobering,” “Tight Grip,” “I Still Want To,” and “Golden Years” explode with high-energy, passionate, and smartly constructed precision. While big, bold, and slick, the production nevertheless sounds like a band in a room together or decimating the stage. [Multiple vinyl colorways are available, including indie store exclusive clear w/ white splatter.]
Various Artists – Guardians Of The Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol.1 CD/LP (Hollywood)
Soundtrack to the 2014 film starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, John C. Reilly as well as the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper. In order to evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a group of misfits including Gamora, Rocket, Drax the Destroyer, and Groot. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. The soundtrack’s 70’s & 80’s songs appear in the film as part of a mixtape in the character Quill’s Walkman, which acts as a way for him to stay connected to the Earth, home and family he lost.
Various Artists – Guardians Of The Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol.2 CD/LP (Hollywood)

Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand.
Washed Out – Notes From A Quiet Life CD/LP (Sub Pop)
The music of Washed Out has always levitated over a timeless frontier. You can sense it in his immersive, amorphous vocals, the expansive soundscapes, the wistful storytelling. It’s a sweet spot where, says its creative force, Ernest Greene, “any sort of association or memory from the past can transport you instantly. I love that.” Greene’s transcendent output has earned him the moniker of “Godfather of Chillwave” by Pitchfork and a co-sign from Portlandia, which borrowed his track, “Feel It All Around,” for its utopian theme song. His latest, Notes From A Quiet Life arrives after delivering more than a decade of distinct and disparate creative re-imaginations at a remarkably high level (five albums, two EPs). Notes is bold in its intuitiveness: Greene has left the treadmill of music-as-a-business, instead letting his artistic interests lead the way. “Each album,” says Green, who also paints and sculpts, “is a world-building exercise.” [A honeydew melon green color vinyl pressing is available.]
Suki Waterhouse – Memoir Of Sparklemuffin CD/LP/Cassette (Sub Pop)
Suki Waterhouse’s music sounds like a collage of her inspirations, experiences, and emotions stitched together by honeyed vocal delivery, bright-eyed melodies, and evocative storytelling. It doubles as a mirror image of her life as a consummate creative, artist, actress, model, and mother, yet it also breaks the glass to unveil raw truth. She leans on an ever-evolving sonic palette to convey what she’s feeling—whether it be folky Americana, ‘90s alternative, turn-of-the-century indie, or handcrafted otherworldly pop. You’ll hear Suki’s longing in a swooning chorus, fearlessness in a crunchy chord, elation in a danceable waltz, and wonder in a soft coo befitting of a lullaby. [A clear vinyl pressing is available.]
Gillian Welch & David Rawlings – Woodland CD/LP (Acony)

Woodland was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee at Welch and Rawlings’ own Woodland Sound Studio (newly rebuilt after the 2020 tornado) and cements the duo’s iconoclastic position at the forefront of acoustic music.

Gracie Abrams – The Secret Of Us CD/LP (Interscope)
Gracie Abrams returns with her sophomore album, The Secret Of Us. This is Gracie’s most expansive body of work both sonically and narratively. Coming off the heels of her hugely successful debut Good Riddance, Gracie shows us how much she has accomplished in one short year. Gracie’s growth as a songwriter and vocalist is showcased in her most extroverted album yet, as she continues to work with longtime collaborator Aaron Dessner. A portion of these songs were also written with Gracie’s best friend, Audrey Hobert. [A yellow color vinyl pressing is available.]

CDs + Vinyl:
Advance Base – Horrible Occurrences CD/LP (Run For Cover)
Horrible Occurrences is the title of the new Advance Base album, and there is truth in advertising. In these songs-all centered around a fictional town called Richmond and featuring an interlinked cast of characters-you will hear stories of death and disappearance, climactic confrontations and unsolved mysteries. “Richmond is just this place where all the bad memories live,” Owen Ashworth explains, and nearly 30 years into his songwriting career, none of his records have packed quite the emotional intensity of this one. And yet something alchemical happens in the telling of these tales. Like a masterful short story collection, Horrible Occurrences is inspiring and alive, idiosyncratic and electric, pulling you closer with each word.

[A blue color vinyl pressing is available.]
Peter Brötzmann & Paal Nilssen-Love – Butterfly Mushroom CD/LP (Trost)
The second volume of the perfect pairing Brötzmann & Nilssen-Love, recorded at Zuiderpershuis in Antwerp, August 2015. The music is less frenzied and aggressive than listeners may be used to, as the musicians shared their exploration of new tools with a more contemplative approach. To be sure, both Brötzmann and NilssenLove summon the usual energy here and there, but it’s a genuine revelation to hear them feel out new sounds in real-time, whether it’s the former caressing the rheumy nasality of the contra-alto clarinet, or the latter reveling in the sustained resonance of his new gongs.
Dom Sensitive – Leather Trim CD/LP (Jordanne Chant)
Equally inspired by patchwork hip-hop production, autobiographical fiction and heart-on-ya-sleeve psychedelia, Leather Trim is laden with streams of sentimental sentences, loopy mechanical junk-yard rhythms, wacky samples, wayward pianos, abundant studio trickery and oceans of tape echo; it’s an extravagant and highly spirited journey from start to finish.
Nahawa Doumbia – Vol. 2 [Reissue/1982] CD/LP/Cassette (Awesome Tapes From Africa)
Released on LP in 1982 and unavailable outside Mali until now, Vol. 2 is an intimate yet powerful document of the early efforts of one of Mali’s most enduring voices. Four decades of worldwide acclaim later, Doumbia is still touring the world blowing minds with her achingly emphatic singing backed by her partner guitarist N’gou Bagayoko. Vol. 2 is stark in its instrumentation-simply featuring voice and acoustic guitar-but massive in its sonic impact. Painstakingly extracted and remastered from LP by longtime ATFA audio engineer collaborator Jessica Thompson, this is the first time this recording has been cleaned-up for wider release.
Duster – In Dreams CD/LP/Cassette (Numero)
San Jose slowcore/space rock outfit Duster returns with the surprise album In Dreams, continuing their inclination of sonically capturing an open-ended question. These thirteen tracks hone in on their trademark dark, droning guitar tones, dialed-back percussion, and alluring hard-panned vocals while expanding and exploring synth-heavy and drum machine avenues. [A clear vinyl pressing is available.]
Bill Evans Trio – In Norway: The Kongsberg Concert CD (Elemental Music)
A complete, previously unreleased performance in brilliant stereo sound quality by the legendary Bill Evans Trio. Audio transferred from the original stereo tape reels and mastered by Matthew Lutthans at the Mastering Lab. Recently found in the Kongsberg Jazz Festival archives, it was widely believed that this concert had not been recorded, and as such it doesn’t appear on any of the Bill Evans discographies. Featuring Eddie Gomez on bass and Marty Morell on drums.
Fennesz – Mosaic CD (Touch)
Composed and recorded at the end of 2023 and completed in the summer of 2024. Fennesz set up a new studio space, the third one in four years. He had no immediate concept, this time starting from scratch, with a strict working routine. He got up early in the morning, worked until midday then had a break and worked again until evening. At first, just collecting ideas, experimenting, improvising. Then composing, mixing and correcting. Yet the title came early, Mosaic, which mirrored this process of putting an element into place one at a time to build the full picture, an ancient technique of making an image, before pixels did it in a flash.
Melody Gardot – Essential 2xCD (Decca)
The Essential is a testament to Melody Gardot’s enduring artistry. This collection spans 14 years of her career and includes 25 tracks that showcase the breadth of her musical abilities. Each track offers a glimpse into the diverse emotional landscapes Gardot can traverse, making The Essential a rich and compelling portrait of an artist whose music speaks for itself.

Jethro Tull – Christmas Album – Fresh Snow At Christmas [Deluxe Edition] 4xCD+Blu-ray/2xLP (Inside Out)
The Jethro Tull Christmas Album was much praised on first release, with Rolling Stone noting admiringly: “The originals simmer with eccentric, eclectic, folky energy, rocking ditties threaded through with Celtic stylings, jazzy undercurrents, Ian Anderson’s distinctive flute and wry humor.” “Some of the tracks are not necessarily Christmas songs; they’re more seasonal so that gives a broader window,” says Ian. “And then there are a couple of them that I quite often play in the middle of summer and say, ‘It’ll soon be Christmas – it’s in the diary. So let’s kick it off now.’ And that’s part of what I’ve done over the years since October of 1968 when I went into record ‘A Christmas Song. ‘So, yes – it goes back a long way.”

Neon Inferno promises to elevate their experimentation further, with hints of futuristic synth waves and even deeper dives into their metalcore roots, setting a new benchmark for their innovative soundscapes. [A pink color vinyl pressing is available.]

An intimate crowd of 1, 800 lucky fans were treated to a number of rarely heard gems over the course of 96 minutes. As Mick Jagger stated from the stage that night, “If you want to see the hits go to the big place down the road.” And as promised, the deep cuts were deep – “Melody” performed for the first time since 1977, while “Moon Is Up” was brought to the stage for the only time in the band’s live career. Wallice – The Jester CD/LP (Dirty Hit)
“Over the past four years and three EPs, Los Angeles native Wallice has continued to grow as a creatively intriguing prospect, documenting the early 20s female experience with scuzzy guitars and a wry wink. It’s with her debut full-length ‘The Jester’, though, that her true talents are fully revealed. Eschewing virality in favor of something ambitious and broad in scope, the album’s fourteen tracks hang around a conceptualized tale of the titular jester, in what’s a gloriously witty – and sometimes meta – metaphor of young artists today.” – DIY

Williams and her band also take on beloved deeper tracks such as “I’m So Tired”, “I’ve Got A Feeling,” and “Yer Blues”. Being raised on the blues in the South, the latter is a song Williams was clearly meant to sing. Recorded at The Beatles’ legendary studio in London, the new collection serves as Vol. 7 of her celebrated ‘Lu’s Jukebox’ series and is the first new volume in almost four years.
Cameron Winter – Heavy Metal CD/LP (Partisan)
Heavy Metal is the debut solo album from Geese frontman Cameron Winter. It’s an unexpected sonic left turn from Geese’s now-patented brand of jam-adjacent indie twang. Winter mostly forgoes stadium-sized guitars in favor of a softer touch that puts his mystical, imaginative lyrical style on full display. Occasionally confounding, endlessly rewarding, Heavy Metal reveals Winter as a chameleonic master of his craft, a shapeshifting singer-songwriter in the mold of greats like Dylan, Cohen, and Nilsson. [A metallic silver color vinyl pressing is available.]
John Zorn – Ou Phrontis CD (Tzadik)
Ou Phrontis means “Who Cares” in Greek. Inscribed on the lintel above the door of T.E. Lawrence’s cottage at Clouds Hill it symbolized a place where Lawrence felt at home, free from the cares of the world. This fourth CD from the dynamic piano trio of Brian Marsella, Jorge Roeder, and Ches Smith (Suite for Piano, The Fourth Way, Ballades), presents eight challenging Zorn compositions inspired by stoic philosophy and science. The telepathic interplay and virtuosity of these remarkable musical masters is on full display here—a stunning collection of music that makes you think as much as it makes you feel.

Cunningham simply answered that “it’s a collage – Braque”. Whatever you call this, a mix, a mixtape, a collage/braque, a new album, what it is, is another Actress statement. Actress grows music. Completely unconcerned with what it is, with what format it is or what it’s defined as.

Bottom Bracket – I’m So Afraid Of Where LP (Run For Cover)
Blue vinyl. Bottom Bracket is back with their sophomore release, but if you haven’t heard of them before, they are looking to change that and change it fast. Everything about I’m So Afraid Of Where screams urgent, as though the band got tired of waiting for the world to notice them and decided to take matters into their own hand. The vocals shoot out at a pace that would put The Gilmore Girls to shame, every sentence loaded and littered with important clues that read like a map to the heart of vocalist/guitarist Mario Cannamela. The guitars twist and churn as they push the song forward, flanked by the rhythm section of Tim Recio (bass/vocals) and Rob Diaz (drums) that drive the song and color it with details that you will only catch on repeat listens.
BT – Binary Universe [Reissue/2006] 2xLP (Black Hole)
This Binary Universe is the fifth studio album by the composer and electronica artist BT, originally released in 2006. Campus Christy – Campus Christy LP (Stones Throw)

Dead Pioneers – Dead Pioneers LP (Hassle)
Who were the first punks? Do The Damned have more of a shout than The Sex Pistols? The Stooges or Ramones? Gregg Deal, the acclaimed visual and performance artist behind his new project Dead Pioneers, is making a claim that Indigenous Americans were the first real punks. Deal suggests that the overarching theme of the album is “an introduction to the band itself”. Created with a DIY disposition and the “love of a scene that saves lives”, they reel off a roll call of marginalised groups and protected characteristics: “Indigenous rights, Black rights, Brown rights, Asian rights, Gay rights, Trans rights, Workers rights and beyond…”. [A mint green colorway is available.]

The Denver five-piece – John Robinson (vocals), James Clower (guitar), Matt Bischoff (bass), Garrett Shavlik (drums), and the dear departed Ricky Kulwicki (guitar) – fused the fire of ’80s hardcore with crunching Detroit protopunk, ’60s garage rock, and ’70s rock swagger. Think MC5, Faces, ’70s Stones, all cranked up and really high on Sex Pistols and Black Flag singles.

Jack Kerouac – Readings By Jack Kerouac On The Beat Generation [Reissue/1960] LP (Verve)
In his third and final album, recorded ahead of the publication of his novel, Doctor Sax, Kerouac uses his voice as an instrument, weaving his words inside of patterns and percussive accents, the way a horn player solos over the changes of a well-known standard. Greg Mendez – Greg Mendez [Reissue/2023] LP (Dead Oceans)
Greg Mendez – First Time / Alone LP (Dead Oceans)
For Greg Mendez, reflection doesn’t mean a static image in a mirror, or even a face he recognizes. It’s more a kaleidoscopic mirage, where paths taken shapeshift with the prospect of paths untread, and the subconscious merges with the intentional. On his self-titled album, the Philadelphia-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist investigates the shaky camera of memory, striving to carve out a collage that points to a truth. But there isn’t a regimented actuality here; instead, Mendez highlights the merit in many truths, and many lives, and how even the hardest truths can still contain some humor. While this is technically Mendez’s third full-length album, his back catalog boasts an extensive range of EPs and live recordings. He’s a prolific and thoughtful songwriter, understanding the joy in impulse, and shying away from the clinical sheen of overproduction. First Time / Alone is the inverse of his 2023 self-titled album, a meticulous and labored-over collection of songs that went on to become a surprise slowburn success.

These recordings, made over a short period of five years, also reflect the transformation from equal member of a trio to soloist.

Chase Rice – Go Down Singin’ LP (Dack Janiels)
With Go Down Singin’ Rice emerges as a spirit settling into a more philosophical place. Still
wildly committed to living wide open in pursuit of his dream and being the best man possible, there was only one title for this 11 – song cycle. Whether measuring the pitfalls and triumphs on the lean fiddle ‘n’ harmony assessment of “Oh Tennessee,” the cascading acoustic guitar passage of simple wisdom from father to son in “Numbers, ” or the smoky looking back at first loves in “Little Red Race Car,” there’s a knowing appreciation for how he got here. In a voice sturdy as a retaining wall, Rice confesses, “I’m 38 now, and that’s part of it. I’ve journaled since I was 15 years old, but there’s something about being able to tell other people. Seahwawks – Time Enough For Love LP (Cascine)
In the fall of 2022, legendary UK chill-out institution Seahawks – aka Jon Tye and Pete Fowler – landed in Los Angeles for the first time in their 15-year history, with plans to record a sweeping new age downtempo “exploration of visionary California.” Instead, they immediately fell ill with flu (Fowler collapsed next to a taco truck; 911 was called), and were bedridden for the better part of a week. Upon recovering, they resituated at the synthesizer sanctuary of Brian Foote (Peak Oil, Kranky, Leech), channeling their post-sickness psychedelia into one of the band’s lushest and most elevated creations to date: Time Enough For Love. Inspired by the “groove and mood” of Harry Nilsson demos, as wel as it’s wider 70’s wavelength – Rhodes, Wurlitzer, wood paneling – Tye and Fowler transposed their classic post-rave ambient exotica onto a warm and woozy Golden State palette.

U – Life Isn’t A Fountain? LP (Lex)
U’s output genuinely defies categorization. Slotting into the broad genre classifications of techno, hip-hop and experimental electronica while never fully pledging allegiance to any. Perhaps, strictly, U should be more methodical selecting records yet invariably drifts towards current musical, historical, anthropological and artistic obsessions.
Various Artists – Angel Olsen Presents: Cosmic Waves Volume 1 LP (Jagjaguwar)

The result is probably the most exciting Warhaus album to date. Karaoke Moon toys with the theme of our modern views on masculinity.
