Attila – Guilty Pleasure CD (Razor & Tie)
“It’s been far too long since a heavy metal band could get the party started the way Attila can. Drinks will be pounded down, blunts will be blown, panties will be thrown, and everyone will have the time of their lives once they hear the Atlanta quintet’s sixth full-length album.”

Buffalo Killers – Fireball Of Sulk CD/LP (Sun Pedal Recordings)
“Cincinnati’s favorite bearded, bohemian brethren, Buffalo Killers are back and are producing cool rocking music at a speed that would make Bob Pollard blush. Their newest release from Sun Pedal Recordings is called Fireball Of Sulk and is a 6-track bookend-like follow-up to their album Heavy Reverie which just came out this past Spring. Heavy Reverie marked a huge turning point for the band in many ways: not only was it their first time working with Sun Pedal, but the band chose this moment to expand their sound by adding slide-style maestro Sven Kahns on both guitar and lap-steel.” – WVXU

Circa Survive – Descensus CD/LP (Sumerian)
Fifth album from the prog rock band.
Nels Cline & Julian Lage – Room CD (Mack Avenue)
“Room reminds me a little bit of the old Chet Atkins and Les Paul duets; it has some frantic energy in it. But I like the way they set up like a phrase or an idea … and then they’ll go exploring off of that, sometimes in free improvisation, which Lage has not done at all. His recorded career has been very much driven by the standards and, sort of, the classic jazz songbook. You can feel that he’s stretching maybe a little bit to fit into Nels’ world. And Nels is probably moving a little bit toward him. It’s definitely brokering a middle place between where each of them are comfortable. And here they’re playing off each other and going in places I didn’t expect. I like how you really hear the attacks, too. You’re getting that sense of them being right next to each other, bouncing ideas.” — NPR
Cloudkicker – Live With Intronaut CD (Century Media)
During an off-date of Cloudkicker’s inaugural tour, in which Intronaut served as his backing band, the skilled musicians headed to Fathom Tree studio in Texas for a live-to-tape recording of their set. Vinyl version due December 16.

Digitally remastered and expanded edition of the 1984 solo album from the Oingo Boingo leader (and later film composer). So-Lo was performed by members of Oingo Boingo, but deliberately not released under the Oingo Boingo name in order to circumvent a dispute with the band’s record label. Elfman stated that he used the opportunity to release material that would not be suitable for an actual Oingo Boingo album, moving away from the band’s ska origins and more towards mainstream synthpop.
Brian Eno/Jon Hassell – Fourth World Vol. 1: Possible Musics [Reissue/1980] CD/LP+CD (Glitterbeat)

Espectrostatic – Escape From Witchtropolis CD/LP (Trouble In Mind)
Austin, TX resident Alex Cuervo (Blacktop, Hex Dispensers) turned a few heads last year with his new project Espectrostatic; his synth-based electronic project in favor of spooky electronic pulses and synth drones a la John Carpenter and Tangeringe Dream. Escape From Witchtropolis ups the anté with more sophisticated and subtle arrangements, letting the songs unfold organically, still inferring the presence of a soundtrack to an as-yet-unmade horror flick. (Vinyl on either mixed color or black wax.)

David Guetta – Listen CD (Atlantic/Parlophone)
“Considering Guetta is one of the world’s highest-paid DJs, it’s not altogether surprising that a lot of people are curious about his latest foray into the lucrative world of EDM. The buzz surrounding Listen is pretty loud right now, thanks in part to the insane number of people David has assembled to help out with the endeavor. According to the folks at Your EDM, David Guetta reached out to a ton of A-list musicians to assist with his latest record, and Listen is essentially a who’s who of top tier mainstream talent. If Guetta wanted to ensure that his album sells a ton of copies when it hits retail shelves later this year, then he found the perfect recipe.” – Inquisitr

Keith Jarrett/Charlie Haden/Paul Motan – Hamburg ’72 CD (ECM)
The legendary Keith Jarrett Trio, playing live at NDR Funkhaus, Hamburg. The trio with Haden and Motian formed in 1966 was Jarrett s first great band, his choice of players a masterstroke. Jupiter Lion – Brighter CD/2xLP (Bcore)
Jupiter Lion has most often drawn comparisons to the bygone Krautrock bands of Germany in the 1970s — a time when the synthesizer became emblematic of thinking outside the confines of music theory and individuating German music more towards experimentation.

Maninkari – L’ocean Reve Dans Sa Loisivete CD (Three Four)
Fashioned around the theme of the ocean symbolizing the subconscious, the hidden world and a very personal concept of “loisivete” a combination of idleness and law, Maninkari continues exploring a weird and dreamlike world. As usual, the Charlot brothers resort almost exclusively to the use of acoustic instruments with oriental origins (bodhran, cymbalom, santoor, zurna). Percussion instruments especially the bodhran play melodic or textural figures, whereas stringed instruments become repetitive to a point where they embody the rhythmics.
Michael Mantler – The Jazz Composer’s Orchestra Update CD (ECM)
In 1968, composer-trumpeter Michael Mantler recorded The Jazz Composer’s Orchestra. CJ Ramone – Last Chance To Dance CD (Fat Wreck Chords)
By 1989’s Brain Drain, the Ramones’ eleventh and least compelling album, the band appeared creatively exhausted. Rather than pick up a New York City/CBGB has-been to fill the enormous shoes left by departing bassist Dee Dee Ramone, the band chose Christopher Joseph Ward, a young punk kid fresh out of the Marine Corps. Christened CJ Ramone, the band hit the road in 1989 on an extensive world tour that culminated in 1991’s Loco Live album. CJ is back in 2014 with Last Chance To Dance, a new album of even stronger material and a stellar backing band of Steve Soto (Adolescents), Dan Root (Adolescents) and David Hidalgo Jr. (Social Distortion). With a sound and style true to the Ramones, CJ Ramone has again added to the legendary Ramones canon with a positively infectious punk rock record.

Violinist Claire Watkins loop-based experimental pop is fleshed out with an army of synthesizers, guitars, and percussion, taking this former bedroom project to new heights. Peppered with film, TV, and literary references throughout, the title of this EP is a reference to David Foster Wallace’s landmark essay E Unibus Pluram, wherein Image Fiction is described as a post-post-modernist reaction in ‘90s fiction to pop culture centric, reference-based literature. You’ll hear lyrical points of reference running the gamut from The Seventh Seal to Arrested Development.
Secret Pyramid – The Silent March/Movements Of Night 2xCD (Students Of Decay)
Double-CD set containing Secret Pyramid’s two albums, The Silent March and Movements Of Night. Originally released in 2011 on cassette, The Silent March can be viewed as something of a mission statement for Amir Abbey’s skyriding Secret Pyramid project. Critics have compared his sound to the more blasted entries in the Popul Vuh catalog and to Flying Saucer Attack’s cherished fuzz devotionals. 2013’s Movements Of Night finds Abbey further develop and refine the haunting, faraway sound world that earned the aforementioned release well-due praise. Deftly navigating the properties of sleep and unconsciousness, Abbey charts a course that is equal parts harrowing and funereal, tranquil and sublime. With Movements Of Night, Abbey casts his net into the abyss of the unconscious and returns with a potent paean to the dreamworld. (The Silent March has also been reissued on vinyl.

Wand – Ganglion Reef CD (God? Records)
Recently released on vinyl and cassette – now available on CD. Put Ty Segall’s newest fascination – right into the tape deck of the heart of your brain. Both artists make music that hearkens back to the ’60s and ’70s, which beam with psych-tinged guitar riffs. But whereas Segall shreds with abrasive and reckless energy, Wand charms with infectious hooks and sugary psychedelia.
Robin Williamson – Trusting In The Rising Light CD (ECM)
Eight years on from the widely-acclaimed Iron Stone recording, Scottish singer/songwriter, harpist and guitarist Robin Williamson returns with a new album of self-penned pieces thoughtful and touching meditations on love, destiny, the natural world, roads traveled, and the daily pleasures of being alive today. The album finds Williamson in fine voice and in best creative form on his diverse instruments, drawing inspiration also from the ingenious improvisational input of violist Mat Maneri (further developing the association initiated on Skirting The River Road) and percussionist Ches Smith (last heard on ECM with Tim Berne’s Snakeoil band).
Witchmaster – Antichristus Ex Utero CD (Season Of Mist)
“For those not in the know, Witchmaster is a Polish black metal band with thrash/punk overtones who first appeared as long ago as 1996 with their Thrash or Die! demo. During that time they’ve had tracks put on various compilation albums, a couple of demos and now they’re on their fifth full length album called Antichristus Ex Utero. So, what can be expected from this album? Well, it’s very decent and catchy. Earlier material is quite rough sounding and deliberately grimy; containing an interesting thrash and punk flavored slice of black metal. To my ears, their material reminds me of what I would imagine a black metal Discharge may have sounded like – and in this particular album it evokes memories of early Impaled Nazarene. Or more specifically, the Latex Cult period.” – Echoes And Dust

The Cats – Relax On Everyone LP (Def Lep Rex)
“Steeped in the kind of splintered ’90s indie rock filigree that comes with triangulation between Philly college radio/WPRB saturation, a sideline in Jersey Shore pop punk regionalism … [and] raspy female vocals in the Peppermint Patty vein,” says Doug Mosurock of Still Single. “The lack of polish across all tracks here works to their advantage … as this five-piece crawls and scrapes their way through two sides of hooky, tire-kicking material, jumping carelessly between budget studio and noisy four-track.”

Robert Lester Folsom – Ode To A Rainy Day: Archives 1972-1975 LP (Anthology Recordings)
Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. Anthology Recordings is proud to announce the reissue of Robert Lester Folsom’s extraordinary 1976 album Music And Dreams. To commemorate this repress Anthology label head Keith Abrahamsson worked closely with Alan Lomax Archive’s Executive Director Don Fleming to compile a retrospective album of Folsom’s early reel-to-reel recordings entitled Ode To A Rainy Day: Archives 1972-1975. Too young to be drafted, Robert Lester Folsom spent the ‘60s growing up in Adel, Georgia, a small town nearer to Florida’s northern border than anything resembling rock & roll. Convincing a friend to go in on a Sears reel-to-reel tape recorder, Folsom would write and record a wealth of material in the early ‘70s which make up the backbone of Ode To A Rainy Day: Archives 1972-1975. Ostensibly more homemade, if not entirely “outsider”, Ode showcases impeccable songwriting across light folk, downer pop and woodshed country tropes. The beauty of this archival album lies in its tracking of the seasons, how each song feels like a different time of year.
Girl Talk – Secret Diary [2002] LP (Illegal Art)
Celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Girl Talk’s first release, Illegal Art presents a limited edition picture disc version of Secret Diary. “Secret Diary has more in common with the glitch/electro sound of Kid606 and Aphex Twin than the DJ-friendly pop styles Girl Talk exhibits today.” – Pop Bunker
Terence Hannum – Via Negativa LP (Utech Recordings)
Via Negativa is the first solo album for Utech Records by visual artist and Locrian member, Terence Hannum. Incorporating voice and organ, Hannum creates a world where time slows and sound is reduced to the steady pulse of the universe. “Via Negativa” is Latin for “negative path.” It is a means of distillation. A way of describing something by saying what it is not. You might say that ambient music is the music of subtraction subtract the melody, subtract the harmony, subtract the rhythm.

With tighter songwriting and cleaner production, the band mix the punk urgency of Nirvana with the sonic experimentation of The Pixies to create a sound that is all their own. Fans of post-hardcore, noise rock, grunge and loud indie rock will surely embrace the rattling sounds of Ladder Devils. “Ladder Devils straddle the line between Unsane and hardcore-isms, but they are on their own trip.”—Noisey/Vice

El Mahdy Jr. – Spirit Of F**ked Up Places LP (Boomarm Nation)
El Mahdy Jr. and his family fled the brutal Civil war of his native Algeria in the ‘90s, relocating to Turkey. Upon returning years later to Algeria, Mahdy worked as a French-Arabic translator in Algeria and later in Burkina Faso. Sick in bed with malaria, he began to paint sonic pictures of his travels in exile; digitally decoding a hazy trance-induced melting of his native Algerian music, Turkish folk, the furious polyrhythms of West Africa, and his love of slow, low-slung rap beats.
Mary Monday & The Bitches – I Gave My Punk Jacket To Rickie 7” (HoZac)
Former stripper Mary Monday had a life shrouded in mystery, and conflicting reports in the historic documentation as to the band and Mary’s origins are still baffling punkologists to this day, including her mysterious death a few years after this single’s release. A classic piece of ‘70s SF punk history, as well as one of the most memorable singles of the era that sadly slipped through the cracks.
Misantropic/Eaten Raw – Misantropic/Eaten Raw [Split] LP (Halfabrikat)
A hardcore holocaust.
Mitski – Bury Me At Make Out Creek LP+MP3 (Double Double Whammy)
The classically trained vocalist and pop songwriter’s new record recalls the work of Angel Olsen and Mount Eerie, combined with the power pop energy of contemporaries, Swearinʼ and Radiator Hospital. Praised by Stereogum for her vocal prowess and “walloping guitars” in latest single, “Townie,” Mitski has already grabbed the attention of a growing audience in her hometown of Brooklyn, NY and on tour with label-mates LVL UP and Frankie Cosmos. Pressed on white vinyl.
The Monochrome Set – Eligible Bachelors [Reissue/1982] LP (Optic Nerve)

Lee Morgan – The Sidewinder [Reissue/1963] LP (Blue Note)
Recorded at Van Gelder Studio in 1963, The Sidewinder by jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan was a runaway hit that reached number 25 on the Billboard chart. The title track, now a jazz standard, is one of the most influential recordings in soul jazz. All five tracks were written by Morgan and the album features respected tenor saxophonist, Joe Henderson.
Don Murrow – Souffrances Et Extases Du Jeune Amour LP (Flannel Graph)
This collection, whose title translates as “The Sufferings And Ecstasies Of Young Love”, is full of euphoric uppers and depressing downers that float across genres as Muro lets his young emotions flow through catchy garage rockers to smooth AM gold ballads to arena-ready prog pop anthems to the analog synthesizer compositions for which he is best known. While comparisons could be made to anyone from The Zombies to Todd Rundgren to Carole King to Pilot to Elton John to Boston, the voice and direction throughout is distinctively Don Muro, who wrote, performed and recorded every note on the record.
Negative Scanner – Negative Scanner 7” (Tall Pat)
Raucous but tight post-punk a bit in the vein of early Sleater-Kinney.
The New Basement Tapes – Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes 2xLP+MP3 (Electromagnetic Recordings/Harvest)
Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes is a music event 47 years in the making. It’s an historic album project from five of music’s finest artists — Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops), Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), Jim James (My Morning Jacket) and Marcus Mumford (Mumford & Sons) — in unique collaboration with a 26-year-old Bob Dylan. Produced by project creator T Bone Burnett, the album was recorded in March 2014 at Capitol Studios in Hollywood, where the artists and Burnett convened for two weeks to write and create music for a treasure trove of long-lost lyrics handwritten by Bob Dylan in 1967 during the period that generated the recording of the legendary Basement Tapes. The collective completed and recorded dozens of songs, the first 20 of which appear on this album.

She was also influenced by R&B performers, including Muddy Waters, Mary Wells and Aretha Franklin.
Prince – ART OFFICIAL AGE 2xLP (WB)

Prince & 3rdeyegirl – Plectrumelectrum LP (WB)
Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. Plectrumelectrum is a classic band record, with 3rdeyegirl – a funk band comprised of Prince, Donna Grantis (guitar), Hannah Ford Welton (drums) and Ida Nielsen (bass). Recorded live and in analog, the album is an electrifying funk-rock statement. Many of the tracks were performed live on the “Hit & Run” tours of the UK earlier this year – incendiary performances in a series of historic venues – which led The Guardian to declare ”These are performances by one of the greatest funk-rock bands ever.”
Rancid – Let’s Go [Reissue/1994] LP+CD (Epitaph)
20th Anniversary vinyl reissue of Rancid’s fifth album. Includes full album on CD.
The Raspberry Bulbs – Privacy LP (Blackest Ever Black)
Songs of excoriating intensity once again form the basis of the work — the no-frills 4-track recording capturing all the violence and nuance of del Rio’s vocals, of the dual guitar rapport, and the machine-gun rhythm section — but this time they’re interspersed w/ eerie electronic miniatures, instrumental pieces that suggest unseen worlds, malign enemies, forces beyond out comprehension and control.
Rolling Stones – From The Vault: Hampton Coliseum (Live In 1981) 3xLP+DVD (Eagle Rock Entertainment)
Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. The Rolling Stones American Tour in 1981 was the most successful tour of that year taking a then record $50 million dollars in ticket sales. The tour was in support of the critically and commercially successful Tattoo You album. There were fifty dates on the tour which ran from Philadelphia at the end of September through to Hampton, Virginia on the 18th and 19th of December. The show on December 18th, which was also Keith Richards birthday, was the first ever music concert to be broadcast on television as a pay-per-view event. The footage has now been carefully restored with remixed/remastered audio by Bob Clearmountain for this first official release of the show.
Secret Pyramid – The Silent March [2011] LP (Students Of Decay)
Originally released in 2011 on cassette, The Silent March is the precursor to 2013’s Movements Of Night and can be viewed as something of a mission statement for Amir Abbey’s skyriding Secret Pyramid project. Critics have compared the Secret Pyramid sound to the more blasted entries in the Popul Vuh catalog and to Flying Saucer Attack’s cherished fuzz devotionals, and indeed Abbey’s reverb-drenched song forms and titanic edifices of drone do feel at times as though they’ve been cut from the same cloth.
Sin 34 – Do You Feel Safe? [Reissue/1983] LP (Sinister Torch)
Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. Formed in the wake of the first wave of L.A. punk, Sin 34 epitomized the Southern California hardcore scene at the time. Fast, defiant thrash; one part suburban teenage rebellion, one part crass satire, all held together by a thread of reckless adventuring.
Sloath – Deep Mountain LP (Riot Season)
Behind the filthy power chords (redolent at times of Harvey Milk or Melvins), the overblown scut of Les Rallizes Denudes or Mainliner, and the state-altering sonics a la Bardo Pond, a mud-scuffed classic rock sensibility informs the songs and their structures.
Son Of A Gun – No Bread 7” (Tall Pat)
Garage punk from Chicago.
Stale Phish – Rock ‘n’ Roll Revert 7” (Tall Pat)
Brings to mind the classic skate punk energy and fun of bands like JFA, Drunk Injuns, and The Faction.
Sungod – Sungod LP (Holodeck)
Five expansive tracks that condense decades into seconds and centuries into minutes. Michael Sharp and Braden Balentine, who record out of their home studio with a rotating cast of like-minded musicians from Austin, incorporate an ever-broadening inventory of influences; methodical arrangements and layers of meditative repetition hearken back to ’70s krautrock, while polyrhythmic drums and arpeggiated synthesizers propel the procession forward in harmony with acoustically-oriented pieces.
Sun Ra And His Astro-Infinity Arkestra – Sign Of The Myth LP+MP3 (Roaratorio)
One of the early ‘70s lost Impulse recordings available for the first time. Recorded during the Pathways To Unknown Worlds sessions (Impulse 1972), it shares that album’s emphasis on guided improvisation. With constantly shifting palette of Moog textures, Sun Ra tosses off a dazzling array of ideas, supported by the usual Arkestra stalwarts; in particular bassist Ronnie Boykins and drummer Clifford Jarvis shine, giving shape and solidity to the pieces.
Tallesen – Stills Lit Through LP (Software)
Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. A hallucinatory experience rife with echoes of Autechre’s corporal maneuver.
Telegrama – Chica Del Metro 7” (Bcore)
A great hymn of Barcelona’s urban pop.
Tenacious D – Pick Of Destiny [Reissue/2006] LP+MP3 (Epic)
Limited HQ-180gm vinyl LP pressing includes digital download and one previously unreleased song.
Torn Hawk – Let’s Cry And Do Pushups At The Same Time LP (Mexican Summer)
Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. It’s difficult to neatly categorize Luke Wyatt’s genre-refracting productions. The nuts and bolts are built from live guitar, drum machines, junky synths, and layers of samples which are smeared into a cohesive whole. His guitar moves between the meditations of Manuel Gottsching, the jangle-grid of The Chameleons, and the saturation of Medicine. Throw in the melodrama of a sax on a Don Henley hit, and you get a better idea of his playfully sincere sensibility.
Otto A. Totland – Pino LP (Sonic Pieces)
Released earlier this year on CD – now available on vinyl. The recognizable continuation of Totland’s compositions will attract fans of Deaf Center, and the cinematic and classical components of his solo work will hold sway for those familiar with Harold Budd or Dustin O’Halloran.
Various Artists – A Distant Invitation: Street & Ceremonial Recordings LP (Sublime Frequencies)
A hallucinogenic splatter-drift audio meltdown through the streets and back alleys of Southeast Asia. Field recordings, radio segments, street musicians and gorgeous ambience.
Various Artists – The Travelling Archive: Folk Music From Bengal (Field Recordings From Bangladesh, India And The Bengali Diaspora) LP (Sublime Frequencies)
The Travelling Archive is a journey through the folk music of Bengal. It is run by Calcutta-based Bengali singer, writer and researcher, Moushumi Bhowmik, and sound recordist and sound designer, Sukanta Majumdar.
