Hanorah – Perennial CD/LP (Ensoul)
Hanorah’s debut album Perennial explores the paradox of intimacy: it is as difficult as it is necessary. In the past seven years, the singer-songwriter collected stories that weave the dark side of romance and humor in heartbreak with personal moments of self-reflection. She visits and revisits these subjects with affection for her past-self, and a little bit more wisdom this time around. The music reflects the intimate themes-often clear, with minimal added effects, her sound evokes equal parts levity and nostalgia.
Kaz Hawkins – Until We Meet Again CD (Diggers Factory)
When she sings, Kaz Hawkins takes us into her vast and colorful universe, simple words express the strong emotions she writes about in an artistic universe that matches her endearing and free personality. Kaz Hawkins has never made a secret of her painful past, but her story has become her strength in writing soulful lyrics and singing with a rare sincerity and intensity. Performing other people’s music for 20 years, Kaz discovered her talent as a songwriter in poems she had written in secret. New Model Army – Sinfonia 2xCD+DVD/3xLP+DVD (earMUSIC)
Recorded at Tempodrom, Berlin on July 15th, 2022, with Sinfonia Leipzig and conducted by Cornelius During, it may seem like an obvious evolution, however, in true New Model Army style they have broken the barriers between band and orchestra, redefining that relationship and defying expectation. All songs have been arranged for orchestra by long-time friend and guest violinist Shir-Ran Yinon, who, in collaboration with the band, created something unique but staying true to New Model Army.
Oscar Peterson – 1964 CD (Mack Avenue)
Oscar Peterson’s trio with Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen is widely regarded as Peterson’s “classic trio,” considered by fans as the most popular and in-demand of his long and storied career (featured on releases such as 1963’s Night Train and 1964’s We Get Requests). Recorded during their creative peak in 1964 (five years into their collaboration), this previously unheard and unreleased live performance is destined to become a fan favorite from the Oscar Peterson vaults.
Psychic Trash – Psychic Trash CD/LP (Riding Easy)
Psychic Trash’s self-titled debut is unmistakably uncompromising, a little theatrical, intermittently manic, and deceptively broad in style for just how much punk rests beneath. For the better part of the last fifteen years, the duo of Max Dameron (guitar / vox) and Sam Ford (drums / vox) have been too weird and too wild for this lame-ass planet. Specializing in the unexpected, Dameron and Ford have wrought an individual sound that’s as much post-Melvins sludge punk as it is futurist prog-metal.

Univers Zero – Lueur CD/LP (Sub Rosa)
Univers Zero’s new album follows the lineage of Phosphorescent Dreams, originally released only on CD in Japan in 2014, and reissued as an LP on the Sub Rosa label in 2019. Lueur is the fruit of two years’ work and reflection, the foundations of which were laid by Daniel Denis (keyboards, drums, percussion…), then enriched by the contributions of Nicolas Dechêne (guitars), Kurt Budé (clarinet / bass clarinet) and Nicolas Denis (bass, percussion, vocals), all three presents on Phosphorescent Dreams. With this reduced line-up, Lueur offers a dense journey, rooted in the balance between power and calm, raging and serene sound. A balance, too, between complex arrangements and more contemplative moments. While this album continues the avant-rock tradition of Univers Zero, it also features some very short pieces, more electronic, tribal, and haunting sounds, and voice work that is new to the U.Z. universe.

Anenon – Moons Melt Milk Light LP (Tonal Union)
Anenon returns with a highly anticipated new album Moons Melt Milk Light, bearing his most personal, expressive, and arresting works to date. Anenon is the ongoing solo studio and live project of Brian Allen Simon, whom since 2010 has released multiple albums and EPs to critical acclaim, including the highly revered Tongue (2018) and Petrol (2016). Moons Melt Milk Light is direct, efficient, and unwavering in its immediacy. Anenon departs from the electronics of previous works, and embarks on a reductive, almost entirely acoustic approach consisting of piano, tenor saxophone, bass clarinet, and field recordings. All the music was improvised with everything recorded as either a first or second take with no edits. [A limited-edition colorway is available.]
Auragraph – New Standard LP (Dais)
The latest by Texan-turned-Angeleno progressive vaporwave producer Carlos Ramirez aka Auragraph finds him shifting focus to the dance floor across eight chrome clockworks of cosmic acid house and liquid rave glide: New Standard. Inspired by lessons learned during a 5K mile American road trip tour in the summer 2022, he set to work in his Simi Valley Tuff Shed of synths and hardware, pursuing an explicitly DJ- friendly muse: “I realized I wanted to make a record where every track could go off in a live setting.” These cuts do just that, revved and rhythmic, peppered with slap bass, Madchester whistles, filtered acid, gated snares, baggy cowbell, and sample pack classics – record scratches, orchestral stabs, the “Yeah! Woo!” from Lynn Collins “Think (About It)”. [A clear vinyl pressing is available.]
Bastards Of Soul – Give It Right Back LP (Eastwood Music Group)
Released last week on CD and standard vinhyl – an indie store exclusive red colorway is now available. Bastards Of Soul return with their third album Give It Right Back, the last chapter in the band’s story following the death of their lead singer Chadwick Murray in 2021. The set features “This Love”, a song written by Chadwick and although he was never able to record the song, Keite Young (who performed the stunning cover of “Like A Ship” with Leon Bridges) stepped in with a beautiful rendition that Chadwick would be proud of. Also featured on the album are Daptone recording artist The Sha La Das and Colemine recording artist Ghost Funk Orchestra.
Raquel Bitton – C’est Magnifique LP (RB)
A compilation of sambas, bossa novas /boleros with Latin flair and is sung in French/Spanish.
Bloodshot Bill – Psyche-o-Billy LP (Goner)
From his first self-released album in 2001, through sixteen more, over thirty singles, and collaborations with the likes of King Khan, Mark Sultan, Jon Spencer, Deke Dickerson, and the 5.6.7.8’s, Bloodshot Bill has parlayed his unique blend of rockabilly, R&B, and garage rock into feverishly prolific productions that tap into the very roots of mutant rock ‘n’ roll. As his reputation has grown, Bloodshot Bill has been deemed a rockabilly wildman, a primitive, a seminal punk, a throwback to the wild ’50s, and the deranged spirit of psychobilly madness. His latest album, Psyche-o-Billy exudes raw energy and authenticity via a frenzied, stripped-down soundscape that defies all rules and descriptions.
Apollo Brown / Joell Ortiz – Mona Lisa [Reissue/2018] LP (Mello Music)

Known for bringing the best out of musicians, Apollo has a knack for making timeless classics. Brooklyn’s Joell Ortiz started on none other than Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label and built a huge buzz in the industry. He’s worked with legends like Just Blaze among others. He then signed to Shady Records as ¼ of the supergroup Slaughterhouse. He’s worked with hip-hop titans Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Jadakiss, Akon, and Big Daddy Kane. Call Me G is the new album by Brooklyn’s Russell E.L. Butler, their first full length LP since the release of 2018’s critically acclaimed The Home I’d Build For Myself And All My Friends on Left Hand Path. In the intervening years, Russell has experienced an accumulation of personal subjective experiences which are explored through captivating musical modalities and expressions on this sprawling, gorgeous, and deeply emotional album. Russell’s work on Call Me G can be described as a unique amalgam of early NY house music, dub techno and poetry. The album’s title track, as well as its instrumentals, are a kind of storytelling for histories that continue to exist without observation as well as for secrets and the power they hold despite their truth being obscured and sometimes lost.
Carpathian Forest – Morbid Fascination With Death LP (Peaceville)

Ornette Coleman – Change Of The Century LP (Destination Moon)
Saxophonist Ornette Coleman was more than just a major force in the free jazz movement. In fact, the term was coined by the album of the same name released by his quartet in 1961, his guiding ethos the erasure of fixed structures via improvisation. Released in 1960, Change Of The Century is one of the ground-breaking albums Coleman cut for Atlantic with bassist Charlie Haden, drummer Billy Higgins, and trumpeter Don Cherry, which made a significant impact on the future direction of jazz. Relying on intuition, their musical chemistry and overriding openness, Coleman & Co. Here conjures some of the greatest work of his career.

Charlie Daniels – Night Hawk LP (CDC)
Most of our concepts about cowboys, and all things western, are mostly derived from movies and TV. Well, the truth of the matter is, the real cowboys are not glow in the dark characters who go around fighting rustlers and cleaning out saloons with their fists. The actual working cowboy is a hard-working, different breed who spend endless hours in the saddle and as Louis L’Amour said, they “ride for the brand.” Nighthawk is a tribute to the working cowboy and his way of life.
Dead Moon – Going South LP (Mississippi)
An incredibly intense live recording from Dead Moon’s legendary 20-date first tour of New Zealand. Recorded before an audience of about 40 people in Invercargill (Keith Richards called it the arsehole of the world), this is Dead Moon at their most savage and intense, the way they were meant to be heard.
Deer Tick – War Elephant [Reissue/2007] LP (Partisan)
Limited heavy metal grey color vinyl pressing. John McCauley, III wrote, arranged, played, and recorded War Elephant at the tender age of 21. The album is full of songs wiser and more nuanced than John should have been able to produce according to natural law. The Donnas – Get Skintight [Reissue/1999] LP (Real Gone Music)

Dying Wish – Fragments Of A Bitter Memory [Reissue/2021] LP (SharpTone)
Marble colorway. Following many successful tours, Dying Wish hunkered down in their native Portland, Oregon, to compose Fragments Of A Bitter Memory. As Brooklyn Vegan observed, “they do metalcore in a way that’s darker and more menacing than a lot of their peers,” and yet, “they could be the biggest band in the world when they let their [more melodic] side shine through.” If the band summon the energy, they’ve demonstrated at DIY festivals and shows up and down the West Coast, the album is destined to be a ripper.
East Forest / Peter Broderick – Burren LP (Bright Antenna)
Burren was recorded over one week in the ancient rocky hillside in Ireland called “the Burren”. Having never met in person before, there was only one precondition: no musical plan. Maybe it was the micro-dosing of the wild foraged fungi, or the drinking of pristine waters from an ancient spring just outside – but for both artists the time together felt precious and magical. “The Barren Burren” and “Resurrect Inside” are the proof. [A translucent green w/ blue colorway is available.]
Eddy – Fluid LP (Ensoul)

Overall, one can feel the fun Danny and Abigail have with their creative process.

Limited-edition ‘ink spot’ colorway. Uprising is widely regarded as one of Entombed’s best albums, and a welcome return to their heavier death ‘n’ roll sound.
Espana – Nuevo Califato LP (Kuroneko)
Industrial punk from this mysterious duo, primitive but original and catchy. Punk as it used to be, confrontational, cynical, mean and with a dark sense of humor. Hailing from Barcelona they also are part of the infamous duo Ca de Bestiar, which is sort of the reverse of this project: while in Ca de Bestiar the punk component prevails over the industrial one in España the punk element is only left on the vocals and the attitude. And as with Ca de Bestiar, they enlist Viktor L. Crux as producer and mixer.
Ex Everything – Slow Change Will Pull Us Apart LP (Neurot Recordings)
Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. Our world has been gradually falling apart. This may seem like a bleak point of view, but the collapse being witnessed inspired post-mathcore outfit Ex Everything as they created their eruptive debut Slow Change Will Pull Us Apart. “Everything around us-politically, socially, environmentally-seems to be stretching and breaking,” says guitarist Jon Howell. “Our record sits in that terrifying place where you’ve been watching it happen.” The Bay Area quartet boasts current and former members of Kowloon Walled City, Early Graves, Mercy Ties, Blowupnihilist, Less Art and others, but listeners shouldn’t mistake this for a short-term project or side band. This is a priority, every member focused and committed, and it only takes a few minutes with the album to understand how serious they are. “This band is completely its own thing,” says Howell. “It addresses the part of us that wants to write fast, chaotic, knotty, messy, pissed off music.”
Experimental Audio Research – The Köner Experiment [Reissue/1997] 2xLP (Space Age Recordings )

Each track is a portal to a world where sound is sculpted into something ethereal and thought provoking.
Feeling Figures – Migration Music LP (K. Records)
“Migration Music is not this generation’s first ramshackle-as-f***k art punk album and I’m not sure it’s even the 30 thousandth. But I do know Feeling Figures have arrived fully formed, with a real voice of their own (several in fact, that must be a good microphone). This album is simply too much fun to have been the product of years of serious study, though I’m told students occasionally have fun, too. I wouldn’t know, I’m a university drop out.”
Fredag Den 13:e – Mänskliga Gränstillstånd LP (Halvfabrikat)
Mänskliga Gränstillstånd (translated Human Limit States) contains 12 fierce hardcore/punk tracks in the same style as their previous albums.
Ghost Hounds – First Last Time LP (Maple House Music/Gibson)
Released last week on CD – now available on vinyl. “In the world of good ol’ rock ‘n’ roll, Pittsburgh’s Ghost Hounds stand out from the pack with a new spin on the traditional approach of classic rock. On their new album, First Last Time, the band channels a combination of the blues, Southern rock and Americana flavors that would light up mainstream rock radio at any point in time over the last 50 years. Much like their label, Gibson Records, Ghost Hounds are every bit as timeless as they are fresh and modern. They seamlessly manage to blur the lines between the new and the old, and it’s all done with such masterful artistry and storytelling that it’s hard to believe that First Last Time is only their fourth full-length album as a band.” – SPIN Magazine

The late percussionist Milford Graves was one of the most unique artists the world has ever seen. Born in Jamaica, Queens in 1941, he began his career in the early ’60s as a part of New York’s vibrant Latin jazz scene. His focus quickly turned inward, shifting towards a practice that explored the very nature of self. From his work in the New York Art Quartet and collaborations with Albert Ayler, Sonny Sharrock and more to his important contributions during NYC’s loft era-he is, simply put, free jazz royalty.

Liberty Hair Farm studio in Echo Park, Los Angeles for the vinyl release of his debut full-length studio album, Count The Clouds. Recorded in 2020 – 2021 before his touring schedule kicked back into high gear with Circles Around The Sun and Grateful Shred, Horne unveils Count The Clouds, featuring eight songs with the multi-instrumentalist vibin’ out on all the guitars, drums, pedal steel, and keys. A flashback to mid-1960s psychedelic folk, Count The Clouds includes special guests NY Oh from Harry Styles’ band, Raze Regal, and Frank LoCrasto.
Iglooghost – Clear Tamei / Steel Mogu LP (Brainfeeder)
Brainfeeder has repressed some more classic (and long sold-out) Iglooghost material from 2019 on limited edition grey marbled vinyl. Steel Mogu and Clear Tamei are Iglooghost’s back-to-back EP follow-ups to his acclaimed full-length debut Neō Wax Bloom. As ever, the releases are bundled with multimedia storyline material that feed into Iglooghost’s ever-expanding narrative – giving longtime fans their first glimpse into the primordial era of the Mamu dimension. Although paired in format, the dual EPs draw from different corners of Igloo’s influences. Steel Mogu is a hyperspeed collage of synthetic, trance-influenced synths contorting around violent, mutating 808s – whilst Clear Tamei channels lavish string quartets and melancholic, fictional classical instruments.
Imperial Space Electric – Reptile Brain Music LP (Psychout)
Orange colorway. Imperial State Electric’s third studio album was originally released in 2013. Clocking in at a little over 33 minutes Reptile Brain Music boasts a dozen tracks of their particular and peculiar rock ‘n’ roll.
Jethro Tull – Warchild 2 LP (Rhino/Parlophone)
WarChild II is a collection of several tracks recorded during the War Child sessions from late 1973 and early 1974. They have all been mixed by Steven Wilson and were all included on CD2 of the War Child 40th Anniversary Theatre Edition in 2014. These tracks are on vinyl for the very first time with the running order chosen by Ian Anderson. The album features Ian Anderson (vocals, flute, acoustic guitar, saxophones), Martin Barre (guitars), John Evan (keys), Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond (bass) and Barriemore Barlow (drums and percussion).
Kitchen Dwellers – Ghost In The Bottle LP (Diggers Factory)
Green colorway. Kitchen Dwellers twist bluegrass, folk, and rock through a kaleidoscope of homegrown stories, rich mythology, American west wanderlust, and psychedelic hues.
Waylon Jennings – Live From Austin TX [Reissue/2006] 2xLP (New West)
Bubblegum pink colorway. This performance by Waylon Jennings was no April Fool’s joke. This was the “new” Waylon, both personally and professionally. He had kicked a 20-year drug habit, split with RCA and signed a new deal with MCA Records. He discovered a passion for songwriting, teamed with legendary producer Jimmy Bowen, and produced some of the best work of his 30-year-plus career. He credited his wife and soul mate, Jessie Colter, for much of his inspiration. This was Waylon’s second trip to the ACL stage, but the one that best captures the raw edge and driving urgency that pushed country music way past its Nashville boundaries starting in the mid- ‘70s.
La Bibliothèque de la Bergerie – La Bibliothèque de la Bergerie LP (Kuroneko)
La Bibliothèque de la Bergerie is the new all-star project from producer Emmanuel Mario (Astrobal). Eleven evocative and exhilarating instrumental tracks, ranging from synthetic to acoustic, from detailed pop writing to sonic experimentation.
Danny Scott Lane – Shower LP (WRWTFWW)
Brand-new album by New York born, Los Angeles based ambient/jazz/downtempo musician Danny Scott Lane, following the recently released and very well-received cozy soundscape, Home Decor. Continuing to gently push (caress?) the boundaries of chill out music, smooth jazz, and comfy electronica, Shower draws inspiration from “the feeling of a steamy shower shared with a stranger after a night on the dance floor”, a warm immersive affair for the mind and the body. This latest funky auditory experience once again invites Matt Elliot Gooden’s soothing saxophone, and this time also welcomes the vibrant beats of drummer David Ruiz. Organic, discreet in the most relaxing and elegant ways, and just the right amount of sexy – Lane’s new creation offers the finest in audio cocooning.
Laolu – Now I See 12” (Crosstown Rebels)
Spirited and resonant, combining soulful female vocals with organic percussion and sweeping melodies throughout, “Now I See” is a warm and sonorous production set for heartfelt dancefloor moments, while “Monday To Sunday” featuring the impactful vocals of Kamohelo takes a darker path as swirling bass patterns, menacing synths and warped tones merge around the commanding flute for a powerful late night cut.
Yusef Lateef with Doug Watkins – Imagination [Reissue/1972] LP (Sowing)
Another legendary Lateef session cut in 1960 for the New Jazz imprint. The co-leader – bassist Doug Watkins – died tragically in a car accident in 1962 at the age of 27. However, prior to his early demise, he recorded dozens of wonderful sessions with some of the greatest jazzmen of his time, among them Sonny Rollins, Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, and the Horace Silver Quintet. Imagination! Marked his second and final album as a leader, and features Watkins on cello instead of bass. The use of cello – and oboe on some numbers – makes the date stand out a bit from the usual hard bop sessions of the period and straight-ahead jazz fans will want to get this.
Loveshadow – II LP (Dark Entries)
Bay Area DIY pop duo Loveshadow join up with Dark Entries to release II, their sophomore LP. Anya Prisk and Izaak Schlossman met in Oakland in 2016, bonded over their love of ’80s sounds and immediately began building their musical world with lush synths, funky basslines, and irresistible hooks. The past is always in their palette, but Loveshadow’s nostalgia doesn’t trace to any single locus; it’s more like a cloud, and it’s through this haze that they breathe new life into the music they love.
Mac Miller – Watching Movies With The Sound Off [Reissue/2013] LP+10” (Rostrum)
Red colorway. 10th anniversary deluxe edition of Mac Miller’s second studio album Watching Movies With The Sound Off on heavyweight galaxy vinyl. Includes a bonus 10″ zoetrope picture disc with bonus track “The Star Room (OG Version)” and a never released vinyl exclusive track “The Quest”.

Released on the PWL and Mushroom labels, the album spawned six singles including “Got To Be Certain”, “The Loco-Motion” and the smash hit “I Should Be So Lucky”.
Mipso – Book Of Fools LP (Monostereo Vinyl)
After a decade on the road and five acclaimed albums, Mipso is starting fresh with Book Of Fools, a loose and groovy live-to-tape rock record that manages to put the self-assured four-piece in a brand new context (electric guitars, barroom piano) while highlighting what makes Mipso special: great harmonies, killer grooves, and brilliant songwriting.
Barbara Moore – Vocal Shades And Tones [Reissue/1972] LP (Be With)
Vocal Shades And Tones is a miraculous leftfield library classic from the genius mind of celebrated UK composer/singer/vocal arranger Barbara Moore. It’s a heavenly groove-based blend of jazz, Latin, soft-psych, folk-funk, and gospel soul. Recorded for the legendary Music de Wolfe in 1972, it’s an audacious start-to-finish listen, as dizzying as it is dazzling. It’s a perfect snapshot of a musical era, supported by Moore’s glorious vocal arrangements. Widely regarded among collectors, DJs, and lounge/easy-listening acolytes as an absolute essential, it is viewed as the holy grail by many production music heads, rarely appearing for sale and disappearing in a flash when it does.
Movulango – The Irony 12” (Deewee)
Movulango’s musical paintings are a visual and intuitive reflection of what it feels like to be him. His weekly radio show, Radio Atlantis on StuBru, Belgium, is a clever alias he uses to explore different worlds, deconstruct existing music, and blend it with his own musical experiments. His latest project The Irony is further insight into Movulango’s divine mind, building deeply personal stories on feeling and emotion that bundle into soaring melodies and lyrics. You can try your best to understand what it all means, or you can sit back and let them bewitch your mind and soul.
Overkill – Scorched 2xLP/Cassette (Nuclear Blast)
Orange colorway. Setting the scene ablaze, the rough and rowdy Overkill has reappeared to bludgeon your ears with their twentieth studio album: Scorched. For over three-and-a-half decades their bottom-line crazy method of thrash has produced some of the most signature moments in the world of metal. [An indie store exclusive gold cassette version is available.]

Parliament Funkadelic – Get Up Off Your Ass: Live In Detroit 1977 LP (Out-Sider)
Everybody with a deep knowledge in R&B is confident with the essence of live P-Funk: the costumes, the stagecraft, the dozen-plus musicians. Alongside Sun Ra Arkestra this was pure Afro-futurism, a long time before it was current language. The so-called coming of the Mothership took place in this 1977 live, during the life changing P. Funk Earth Tour. Anyone who’s seen footage of the band at their prime can’t overstate the greatness of their spectacle.
Gram Parsons & The Fallen Angels – The Last Roundup: Live From the Bijou Cafe in Philadelphia, March 1973 2xLP (Org Music)
In early 1973 Gram Parsons embarked on a tour to promote his recently released first solo album GP. He put together a skilled band, including the then unknown Emmylou Harris as his singing partner. The shows were a bit uneven at first, but by mid-tour the band started to find its groove. One show stood out to pedal steel player Neil Flanz – the third night at the Bijou Cafe in Philadelphia. Neil felt that this was the best show of the tour and requested a copy of the soundboard recording. He saved it for almost 40 years before it was acquired by Amoeba Music for a future release. It then disappeared in the vault for another 10 years before being rediscovered when Amoeba moved to a new location in L.A. A 50-year-old soundboard cassette offers unique challenges, but thanks to the efforts of some of the world’s best archival sound restoration engineers, the beauty and energy of Gram, Emmy, and the band shine through.
Paul C – Let The Bass Kik 12” (Hot Creations)
A mainstay within the Italian house landscape for over two decades, DJ/producer and label owner Paul C has delivered quality house records via a wealth of top-tier imprints while featuring at key clubs across Europe and beyond. Having made his debut on the label back in 2013 with his bustling collaboration Get This!, with 2015’s follow-up Pinball also proving to be a favorite for many, he now returns to Hot Creations as he delivers three impressive tracks across his Let The Bass Kik EP.

Modeled precisely after Prine’s 1935 Wurlitzer Jukebox, the collection features the eight singles John released throughout his career on Oh Boy Records packaged in their original artwork.
Radio Slaves – Wake Up (Remixes) 12” (Rekids)
The original “Wake Up” saw Matt Edwards, aka Radio Slave, utilize low-slung grooves and an iconic speech-like vocal. Superpitcher remixes the track first, turning it into an acid-infused trip with its vocal samples echoing through cavernous, dubbed-out soundscapes. On the flip, we see Idjut Boys turn up the flange in their hypnotic version while maintaining the original’s bassline and stripping back the vocal to eerie whispers.
Raze Regal & White Denim Inc. – Raze Regal & White Denim Inc. LP (Bella Union)
Raze Regal, prolific electric guitarist and James Petralli, founding member and vocalist of Austin, Texas indie rock legends White Denim, met during a West Coast tour in 2019, and quickly formed a deep friendship bound by their mutual love of ’60s and ’70s rock, the jazz saxophone innovations and compositions of Eddie Harris, Joe Henderson and Wayne Shorter, ’80s R&B production techniques and new wave energy. What followed for both men was a period of intense personal change, growth, and transformation – a period that is reflected in the creation of Raze Regal & White Denim Inc., a profoundly collaborative album that saw both musicians pour years of blood, sweat, and tears into some of the most soul-affirming music of their careers.
Red Reign – Don’t Look Back LP (Deko Music)
Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. Red Reign is comprised of singer/guitarist Carlton “Bubba” McMichael, guitarist Stevie Shred, bassist Larry Moore, and drummer Sammy Lee. Bridging the sounds of yesterday and today, the band has issued a pair of hard-hitting yet melodic releases thus far, 2021’s self-titled EP and now 2023’s full-length Don’t Look Back, both of which have been overseen by Grammy Award-nominated multi-platinum producer David Ivory (Halestorm).
The Rezillos – Can’t Stand The Rezillos [Reissue/1978] LP (Survival Research)
After a debut single in 1977, forward-thinking Edinburgh punk band The Rezillos signed to Sire, leading the band to record their acclaimed debut Can’t Stand The Rezillos in New York, where co-produced Bob Clearmountain drew out the best of their abilities. The anthemic “Top of the Pops” reached the UK top-20 and spirited punk covers of The Dave Clark Five’s “Glad All Over”, Gerry & The Pacemakers’ “I Like It”, and Fleetwood Mac’s “Somebody’s Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight” added to the appeal. The band would soon split and reform as The Revillos, but nothing beats the power of this unmatched debut LP. Four bonus tracks included.
De Schuurman – Bubbling Inside [Reissue/2021] LP (Nyege Nyege Tapes)
Bubbling Inside is a collection of Schuurman’s most essential cuts from the era (2007-2009), with a couple of newer productions added for context. Crafted solely for the dance, most of these tracks were never properly released and have been painstakingly hunted down and collected by the Nyege Nyege Tapes together with Sascha Roth from Pantropical in Rotterdam and de Schuurman himself. Hearing them together highlights just how forward thinking the young producer was, steering a Dutch institution into the future. [A military green colorway is available.]
Richard Sears – Appear To Fade LP (figureeight)
Brooklyn pianist and composer Richard Sears debuts on Shahzad Ismaily’s figureight records with the hypnotic Appear To Fade, a gentle, melancholic, semi-improvised expression for piano and experimental tape loops, recorded in a single day. Appear To Fade unveils a realm where the boundaries between jazz and ambient music blur, guided by the skilled hands of Richard Sears on piano and Una Corda. This recording weaves between improvisation and composition, brought to life through the collaborative efforts of Sears and collaborator Ari Chersky, whose production and tape-looping techniques gives Appear To Fade a unique identity.
Sideral – Trills 12” (Habitat)
With his first solo release since launching the Sideral project earlier this year, Sideral’s Trills‘ EP is now available on Habitat, the new label from Italian duo Mind Against. Launching this past June with their standout Metaflora various artists compilation which included tracks from Ivory, Dyzen, Nandu, Ae: ther, and more (in addition to a collaboration between Sideral and Mind Against), Habitat keeps the momentum going with this exciting release.
Smash Mouth – Fush Yu Mang [Reissue/1997] LP (Real Gone Music)
Red w/ black colorway. San Jose-based ska pop-punkers Smash Mouth went double platinum with their 1997 debut record Fush Yu Mang (the title came from Al Pacino slurring “F* you, man” in the film Scarface) on the strength of their huge hit “Walkin’ On The Sun.” But the rest of the album is pretty rad ‘n’ rockin’, full of classic rock winks ‘n’ nods culminating in their skankin’ cover of War’s “Why Can’t We Be Friends”.
Snoop Doggy Dogg – Doggystyle [Reissue/1993] 2xLP (DRR/Gamma)

Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 – These Things Remain Unassigned (Singles, Compilation Tracks, Rarities & Unreleased Recordings) 2xLP (Bulbous Monocle)
These Things Remain Unassigned – a phrase coined by Brian Hageman, one of the band’s musical snake appendages emanating from its Medusa crown – is presented as a double LP (gatefold jacket with a twelve-page libretto). It gathers the band’s singles, compilation tracks, outtakes and never released gems encompassing the arc of TFUL’s musical corpus. Beyond the rare singles and unreleased tracks from the TFUL archives, are cover versions from such disparate artists and composers as Ennio Morricone, Krzysztof Komeda, The Residents, The Shaggs, Caroliner Rainbow and Pérez Prado.

Casewrapped box set. Acclaimed Canadian rock band The Trews introduced their magnetic and massive sound on the full-length debut album, House Of Ill Fame, in 2003. Drawing on rock, pop, punk, and metal, the band took over radio in Canada with “Not Ready To Go”, and twenty years and a Canadian Platinum certification later, the songs still pack their original punch. Upon release, Sputnik Music raved “All of the songs are great, spectacular even. And many have an insanely catchy beat to them, making this possibly one of the best rock records in a while.” The album kickstarted an incredible journey for the band.

Vecchio – Afro-Rock [Reissue/1971] LP (Be With)
Vecchio’s Afro-Rock is one big horn-heavy, bass-blasting, Latin groove funk-rock party. This beautifully presented reissue, part of Be With’s fresh campaign with Music de Wolfe, is well overdue. A magnificent and somewhat obscure library set that’s just a total, cohesive joy from start to finish, this here is the soundtrack to all your smokin’ summer BBQs and communal cookouts. Afro-Rock is the debut album by Argentine keyboardist Luis Vecchio. Recorded for the sound library label de Wolfe, the album is frequently mentioned in hushed reverence among the beat digger DJ collecting crowd. Ben Webster – Soulville [Reissue/1958] LP (Destination Moon)
After a time with Duke Ellington, expressive tenor saxophonist Ben Webster went solo, recording an early LP for Norman Granz’s Norgran label leading him to his most successful phase with Verve, following a merger. Soulville is easily the best of the bunch, with Webster’s breathy tones given a fitting accompaniment by Oscar Peterson and his group, then including bassist Ray Brown, guitarist Herb Ellis, and understated drummer Stan Levy; versions of “Lover Come Back To Me” and “Makin’ Whoopee” sound excellent, but bluesy originals such as “Last Date” and the title track are truly outstanding.
Chris Whitley – Din Of Ecstasy [Reissue/1995] LP (Real Gone Music)

Bailey Zimmerman – Leave The Light On 12” (Warner Nashville)
Released earlier this year on CD – now available on vinyl. The debut EP from the breakout country artist. Includes the singles “Fall In Love” and “Rock And A Hard Place”. Zimmerman was born and raised in the small town of Louisville, IL, where he grew up listening to hour after hour of country radio on long hauls across state lines with his father, who owned a trucking business. Back at home his mom instilled in him a life-long appreciation for the power chords and edgy vocals of ‘80s hair rock. From long hours on the gas pipeline, to late nights of back breaking roadwork, Zimmerman embodies the old school American values of hard work and dependability and applies the same steadfast mentality to his music.
