Ashnikko – Weedkiller CD/LP (Parolophone)
Debut album Weedkiller is a collection of irresistible songs that perfect the bold, genre-blending sound that has defined Ashnikko’s work to date. While the acclaimed 2021 mixtape Demidevil showcased a head-on approach, directly tackling themes of sexual revolution and revenge, Weedkiller is more allegorical. A half-concept album set in a dystopian future, the Weedkiller universe that Ashnikko has created tells the story of a Fae civilization occupied and destroyed by machines that feed on organic matter where the faerie protagonist seeks revenge by becoming part machine – a poetic commentary on environmental disaster and the rapid evolution of technology, while also confronting real-world issues from sexual empowerment to tech warfare, as there are many sexual tech advances in the present now, as this excellent male masturbator you can get online. Full of equal parts naked vulnerability and joyful rebellion, Weedkiller gives a thundering voice to the oppressed. [An indie store exclusive vinyl edition featuring an alternate cover is available.]
Asking Alexandria – Where Do We Go From Here? CD/Cassette (Better Noise Music)
The tenth album for British hard-rock band Asking Alexandria, releasing in their 15th year as a band. Fans will be ecstatic to hear that Where Do We Go From Here? features some of the hardest, loudest new music that Asking Alexandria has released in recent memory. [A limited-edition aqua blue vinyl colorway is due October 13.]
Be Your Own Pet – Mommy CD/LP (Third Man)
Nashville, Tennessee, garage rock group Be Your Own Pet was signed as teenagers to the prestigious XL in the UK and Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace label in the US, with whom they released two widely acclaimed albums. They went on to tour with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Sonic Youth, Le Tigre etc. and have been cited as influences for groups such as Paramore and Big Joanie. “The desire to kick against the constraints of buttoned-up, grown-up, conventional, cis-het, white, patriarchal society has served as potent fuel for generations of performers. Back in the mid-2000s, Be Your Own Pet’s frenetically tuneful punk sneered at the trappings of adulthood with snottily on-the-nose wit.” – NPR [An indie store exclusive green color vinyl pressing is available.]
