Drive-By Truckers – The New OK CD/LP (ATO)

Drive-By Truckers released The Unraveling in January 2020 and set out for what was supposed to be a full year of touring. Needless to say, it did not go as planned. The New OK is a phrase Patterson Hood found himself saying a lot these past few months. This new album, made up of songs left over from The Unraveling sessions and new ones written and recorded since, hopefully balances out the darkness of our current situation with a hope for better days and nights ahead. Paul McCartney – Paul McCartney III CD/LP (Capitol)

50 years following the release of his self-titled first solo album McCartney, featuring Paul McCartney playing every instrument and writing and recording every song, Macca delivers McCartney III. Paul hadn’t planned to release an album in 2020, but in the isolation of “Rockdown,” he soon found himself fleshing out some existing musical sketches and creating even more new ones. Before long an eclectic collection of spontaneous songs would become McCartney III: a stripped back, self-produced and, quite literally, solo work marking the opening of a new decade, in the tradition of 1970’s McCartney and 1980’s McCartney II. Recorded earlier in 2020 in Sussex, McCartney III is mostly built from live takes of Paul on vocals and guitar or piano, overdubbing his bass playing, drumming, etc. atop that foundation. McCartney III spans a vast and intimate range of modes and moods, from soul searching to wistful, from playful to raucous and all points between. [A Songbook edition containing piano/vocal/guitar arrangements for all songs from McCartney III and accompanying CD is also available, as well as a stand-alone ‘smoky tint’ cassette edition.]

I Prevail – Post Traumatic CD/2xLP (Fearless)

Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. Grammy-nominated rock powerhouse I Prevail present a new 17-track collection Post Traumatic featuring live, reimagined, and acoustic versions of songs from their blockbuster 2019 sophomore effort Trauma. Post Traumatic demonstrates the many sides of I Prevail’s musical personality. Live versions of the barnburner “Bow Down” and the unforgettable and contemplative “Breaking Down” capture the band’s onstage prowess and passionate exchange of energy with its diehard fanbase. Elsewhere, a stripped-down version of “Every Time You Leave”, featuring Juno Award-nominated Canadian singer Delaney Jane, shows off the band’s more melodic side. Collaborations with EDM superstar Illenium and rap dynamo Joyner Lucas are also included. Ultimately, Post Traumatic is a multi-faceted release that calls attention to all of I Prevail’s layers. Arctic Monkeys – Arctic Monkeys Live At The Royal Albert Hall 2xCD/2xLP+MP3 (Domino)

Recorded at the start of the band’s Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino tour, Arctic Monkeys Live At The Royal Albert Hall features 20 of the band’s finest moments to date. “On June 7, 2018 we played a very special show at London’s Royal Albert Hall,” notes the band. “All the proceeds from that memorable night were donated to War Child UK in support of the vital work they do protecting, educating and rehabilitating children who have experienced the trauma of conflict and the horror of war. The situation that was bad in 2018 is now desperate and those children and their families need our help more than ever. To enable War Child UK to reduce their funding deficit and continue their valuable work, we are happy to be able to release a live album, recorded that evening at The Royal Albert Hall. All proceeds will go direct to the charity. We thank all our fans in advance for their support of this release and in turn for their support of War Child UK.”

Jamie Cullum – The Pianoman At Christmas CD (Capitol)

Multi-platinum, Ivor Novello Award-winning musician Jamie Cullum delivers the holiday big band album The Pianoman At Christmas featuring ten original songs boasting a total of no fewer than 57 musicians. The festive set was recorded over five days at Abbey Road Studios, with producer Greg Wells, known for his work with Adele, Dua Lipa, and on the soundtrack for The Greatest Showman. It’s introduced by the first single “Turn On The Lights”, a joyful celebration of the season that sets Cullum’s keyboard work against a symphony of strings, horns, and expansive orchestral percussion. Russell Dickerson – Southern Symphony CD (Triple Tigers)

Co-produced alongside frequent collaborator Casey Brown and a first-time collaboration with legendary producer Dann Huff, Southern Symphony is the sophomore album from multi-platinum recording artist Russell Dickerson and follow-up to 2017’s Gold-certified Yours. “Southern Symphony is hands down the best work I’ve created,” said Dickerson, “It’s the best songs I’ve written. It’s sonically the best we’ve created. This album is ten honest and true tracks that tell the story of how I’ve grown as an artist and a man. I could not be more proud of every song on this album.” Southern Symphony is packed with humble and heartfelt ballads about love and nostalgia matched with his signature “RD party” anthems, including one of Russell’s biggest collaborations to date on “It’s About Time”’ featuring multi-platinum recording artists, Florida Georgia Line. It’s been a decade since the Grammy-nominated Live In Chicago, when the ferocity of Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his band was last captured live. Since then the multi-platinum selling Shepherd has gone from strength to strength, releasing four studio albums and touring the world over several times – from Brazil to Europe, India to Canada and the US to Australia and beyond. The band were only weeks into The Traveler World Tour when the Covid-19 pandemic broke, and the world came to a standstill. This show took place at the famous Leverkusen Jazzstage for the iconic German TV show, Rockpalast on November 25, 2019. [Limited edition red colored vinyl pressing also available.]

Smashing Pumpkins – Cyr CD/2xLP (Sumerian)

The Smashing Pumpkins follow-up 2018’s Shiny And Oh So Bright, Vol. 1: No Past. No Future. No Sun. and usher in the dawn of a new decade with the new 20-track double album, Cyr. Produced by frontman Billy Corgan and recorded in Chicago with original members James Iha and Jimmy Chamblerlin plus longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder, the album comes introduced by the synth-soaked title cut which Corgan likens to a “dystopic folly” and the hooky Cure-leaning “The Colour Of Love”. “This is the first album since the album that came out in 2000, Machina, where me, James [Iha] and Jimmy [Chamberlin] worked on something for a very long time,” Corgan said. “It’s got a greater conceptual base, and it’s probably a wider swath of music. The last one was kind of like, ‘Let’s just jump in, record some stuff real fast, and let it be what it is…’ so I’m excited about this, because we’re kind of back in the lane of taking a risk, and trying to bring something new to the table, as opposed to just aping what we’re known for.” [Limited edition colored vinyl pressing also available.]
