Formed from the ashes of Babyface, this Florida five-piece led by guitarist Bobby Barth signed with MCA in the late ‘70s for two albums, but really put the pedal to the metal when they brought in Wayne Haner as bassist and inked with Atco in 1981. At their peak, Axe offered a uniquely American answer to period Brit-rockers like Judas Priest and Motörhead with melody to burn.

Pat Ament – Time Moved On CD (Grapefruit)

Pat Ament is best known to record collectors for his 1971 debut Songs (reissued this week on vinyl). This CD (which also comes free in the LP reissue of Songs) collects the best of his musical output since, all chosen by Ament himself. The beauty of his songwriting remains clear-eyed throughout Time Moved On, a worthy retrospective highlighting the breadth of his artistry.

Amyl and The Sniffers – Big Attraction/Giddy Up [2016/2017] CD (Homeless)

Amyl and The Sniffers is a punk band possessed by the spirit of ‘70s Australian rock. Amy Taylor (vocals), Bryce Wilson (drums), Dec Martens (guitar) and Gus Romer (bass) are former housemates who formed the band, wrote a handful of tunes and released their debut EP, Giddy Up, all in a span of 12 hours.
