Beatles “Hard Day’s Night” plays for ONE NIGHT ONLY at the Palm Theatre on November 18th 7:00pm and 9:15pm. Timeless and worth every cent to see on the big screen amongst fans.Richard Lester’s A Hard Day’s Night is being brought back in a newly restored print with a digitally enhanced soundtrack, and it’s better than ever. Not only has this film not dated, it may even look fresher than it did in 1964; the zigzag cutting and camera moves, the jaunty ironies and pop-celebrity playfulness, are all standard issue now on MTV and its offspring. And yet what will strike you seeing it again is what a motley set of traditions this newfangled comedy drew on; not just The Goon Show but also the British music hall and the Marx Brothers and the Keystone Kops. It’s possible to look at A Hard Day’s Night, with its fizzy innocence and its impossibly young-looking Beatles, and wax nostalgic, but really, this film is far too much fun for nostalgia.
On October 27th, Jack Johnson will be releasing a documentary and album on multiple physical and digital formats. The film traces the steps of last summer’s European tour, and the CD features highlights from the entire World Tour. The film will have a SLO premiere on Saturday, October 24th at 7:00pm at the Cal Poly’s Chumash Auditorium. Tickets are available for $8 ($6 w/ student ID).
