Delicate Steve – Delicate Steve Sings LP (Epitaph)
Steve Marion, the critically acclaimed-and completely wordless-songwriter and guitarist known as Delicate Steve, has unveiled a new album called Delicate Steve Sings. It is often said that demos are superior to a released product, and it is certainly the case here. Quivers – Oyster Cuts LP (Merge)
Indie store exclusive pressing. Oyster Cuts finds the Melbourne, Australia-based outfit awash in the kind of emotions people tend to fear losing themselves in. Finding love after grief, the outsized guitar pop of Quivers gleams like the surface of an ocean, beneath which lies a reef that is at turns beautiful and painful, its features alien and sharp enough to wound. Propelled by melodies that at times recall Galaxie 500 and The Pretenders, Quivers make music that is tender and tough, compelling the listener to dive in again and again, each song a new angle on all your feelings.

Rippikoulu – Musta Seremonia [Reissue/1993] LP (Svart)
Rippikoulu began their musical endeavors back in the late ‘80s, and like so many of their contemporaries, evolved from primitive punk noise to death metal. However, while many bands played death metal with groovy riffing and overall headbanging attitude, Rippikoulu’s choice of style was darker. Their down tuned metal is bleak and nearly unbearably heavy in its execution, dark and soul-searching in its themes, intertwining faster bursts of chaos with slow, doomy passages. Rippikoulu released the Musta Seremonia demo album on tape in 1993 and then disappeared. They never gained much popularity in their time, but their legacy has steadily grown in time. The album has been carefully remastered from the original DAT master tape, cleaned up and amplified. [A red w/ black smoke colorway is available.]

Scald – Ancient Doom Metal LP (High Roller)
Sea blue colorway. New album. Scald from Yarsoslavl in Russia was formed by bassist Velignor in the second half of 1993. A year later their first proper demo tape North Winds was recorded. However, it was their cassette album under the original title of Will Of Gods Is A Great Power, released in October 1997 on MetalAgen (one of the biggest labels in Russia at the time), that made them an underground cult name in international doom circles. At this point in time their charismatic singer Agyl was already dead (he was tragically killed in a train accident on September 6th, 1997), and the band as such didn’t exist anymore. 24 years later, in 2021, High Roller Records issued the ultimate edition of the album under the new title of Will Of The Gods Is Great Power. As a result, Scald was gaining battalions of new fans and went on to achieve a whole new level of popularity.

The Scientists – You Get What You Deserve [Reissue/1985] LP (Numero)
Bad vibes, habits, and breath collide on this ten-song pile up on the freeway to nowhere. Melting neo-grunge, swamprock, and noise punk in a cauldron of drug-addled psychosis, 1985’s You Get What You Deserve continues Australia’s prison-as-country tradition of unhinged lunacy in the face of cultural isolation. Nuke nostalgia, femme fatale sharpshooters, demolition derbies, and a vacation at Hell Beach await. [A color vinyl pressing is available.]

Shorter made his own auspicious label debut that spring with Night Dreamer and that summer he joined the Miles Davis Quintet cementing a line-up that would become one of the seminal bands in jazz history. When he returned to the studio for Blue Note in August it was in the company of three musicians with strong ties to John Coltrane: pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Reggie Workman, and drummer Elvin Jones.
