Hania Rani – Esja LP (Gondwana)
Esja is Hania Rani’s debut solo album – a beautifully sculpted, entrancing record that announces Hani Rani as a major new artist and offers new delights and insights on every listen. “No hiding behind the ‘collaborations’ or ‘projects’ anymore. For the very first time, finally – just me, as I am”. The compositions on Esja were born out of a fascination with the piano as an instrument, and Rani’s desire to interpret its sound and harmonic possibilities in their entirety and in her own way. Recorded at Rani’s apartment in Warsaw (the piano room has a beautiful reverb, and the space has become part art studio and part sound laboratory for Rani) and at her friend Bergur Þórisson’s studio in Reykjavik, Esja is a series of beautiful melodic vignettes, inspired by, Berlin, Iceland and the wild mountains in Bieszczady as well as a love of art and architecture. Sensual, sensitive, rhythmic, atmospheric, free but harmonious, beguiling and hypnotic, collectively they project a sense of unlimited space and time.

The LP features a full-color lyric sheet / poster exclusive to this edition. “Sounds vie and twist at frequencies you can’t so much hear as feel in the bridge of your nose, and the variety and full-bloodedness of the accompaniment is what prevents Aird’s vocal from occasionally lapsing into shtick.” – Alex Neilson, The Wire

The Body – I Shall Die Here / Earth Triumphant [Reissue/2014] 2xLP (RVNG Int’l)
On I Shall Die Here, The Body sonically serrates the remains of metal’s already unidentifiable corpse and splays it amid tormented voices in shadow. Sharing their heathen vision with The Haxan Cloak, The Body’s tried, true, and absorbingly tragic sound is mutilated by process and re-animated in a spectral state. This double-LP set is expanded with the previously unreleased Earth Triumphant, a full-length companion album that would become I Shall Die Here, showcasing The Body’s brutality in its most primal form.

Bazter Dury – I Thought I Was Better Than You LP (Heavenly)
Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl (including an indie store exclusive pink colorway). Musician, writer and Renaissance man Baxter Dury returns with his seventh studio album, I Thought I Was Better Than You, and with this new era comes a new character. “Faux-confrontational,” Baxter calls him. Here, not only is he recounting his childhood, but he’s also reckoning with it. Instead of just swinging at his past blindfolded with a baseball bat, he talks openly about the toxic cocktail of being born into unfortunately fortunate circumstances, with a persuasive surname but no structure or sense of responsibility with which to reap the rewards of it.

Suffering from depression and other mental health issues, Farren teamed up with an all-star cast, including members of Quartermass and ex-Tyrannosaurus Rex honcho Steve Peregrin for debut opus Mona The Carnivorous Circus. The album mixes hard rock, spoken word, spaced-out interludes, radio cutups, and garage rock, rendering a work as compelling as it is hard to classify. Strange, delightful, and a favorite of Julian Cope, this is an aural journey to savor.

At first listen, these 11 sparkling tracks are a sun-drenched, irreverent volley with the onset of adulthood, but as the listener dives deeper, they will find an earnest consideration of musical phrasing and deliberately crafted wordplay regarding the complexity of love, loss, and skateboarding.
Jan Dukes de Grey – Strange Terrain [Reissue/2010] LP (Trading Places)
After exiting Buster Summers Express, Leeds-based songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Derek Noy formed Jan Dukes de Grey with woodwinds player, Michael Bairstow, soon opening for Pink Floyd and the Who, though LPs Sorcerer and acid folk masterpiece Mice And Rats In The Loft sold poorly. After line-up changes, in 1977, Noy assembled a new crew for Strange Terrain, cut at Brittania Row with Roger Waters co-producing, but the album’s curious mix of post-prog, acid rock and punk was deemed unsuitable for release until 2010.

Khruangbin / Nubya Garcia – Live At Radio City Music Hall LP (Dead Oceans)
It’s only fitting that Khruangbin’s first-ever official live releases would be albums paired with their tourmates: artists whose music they love and admire, friends who’ve become family along the way. Khruangbin’s series of live LPs traces just one small slice of the band’s flight plan through the years: it’s a taste of some of their most beloved cities, stages, and nights. Each release comes with a limited-edition unique album cover exclusive for the recording’s home turf, just a little something extra for the fans that bring a little something extra. Most of all, this series ignites both sides of the band’s magic: the warm, prismatic feeling of their albums and the bewitching energy of their performances.

Purple color vinyl pressing. La Dispute’s Wildlife, the follow-up to their 2008 LP Somewhere At The Bottom Of The River Between Vega And Altair is a nearly 60-minute musical examination of the twenty something search for purpose; an exploration of the struggles that confront, damage, and redefine US inevitably in life through 14 tracks.
Jim Lauderdale – Wait ‘Til Spring [Reissue/2003] LP (Missing Piece)
20th Anniversary edition. It’s difficult to pigeonhole musicians like Jim Lauderdale. He’s been called “country,” but that seems more of a convenient label than an accurate description of his talent. Lauderdale, after all, recorded an album with Ralph Stanley in 2000, and joined up with Donna The Buffalo in 2003 for Wait ‘Til Spring. Country singers, after all, don’t make a habit of associating with jam bands (imagine Merle Haggard recording with the Grateful Dead). The combination, however, works remarkably well here. Lauderdale obviously wanted a sonic twist to his homegrown songs, and Donna the Buffalo obliges. The six-piece band, in fact, has a bewildering arsenal of instruments, ranging from fiddle, accordion, electric guitars, an organ, and vocals.
Loma Prieta – Last LP (Deathwish Inc.)
Loma Prieta is a punk band from San Francisco, CA. Last is comprised of eleven songs which took shape amid the turbulence the world has collectively faced over the last number of years. [An indie store exclusive black w/ white colorway is available.]

The March Violets – Made Glorious [Reissue/2013] 2xLP (Jungle)
The March Violets came from Leeds in the early ‘80s, label-mates of Sisters Of Mercy. Constantly at the heights of the UK indie singles charts, the singles were the base for successful compilations in the UK and US. Signing to a major, they had two songs featured in a John Hughes’ movie – but split up before an album was completed. 25 years later they reconvened, making tours of the UK and USA.

From songs such as “Me” and “My Mirror”, she embodies spiritual and musical transcendence.
Neu! – Neu! 2 [Reissue/1973] LP (Goenland)
Limited picture disc vinyl pressing. After the considerable success of their self-titled debut album, Klaus Dinger and Michael Rother set out ambitiously to record a follow-up. Virtually everything went wrong. The first of the artistic and personal differences that existed between them not only began to surface, but to flourish in the face of a nearly impossible studio deadline and overly tight budget. While the basic Neu! Sound was not an issue, how to augment it was. Over time, this great big middle finger to the music biz weathered the storm very well. In fact, it now sounds as if it were recorded this way based on aesthetics rather than anger. But at the time it merely showed a duo that had worn each other out and had been dissed by their record company. This is essential Krautrock.
nothing, nowhere – Void Eternal LP (Fueled By Ramen)
nothing, nowhere. is the musical endeavor of Vermont songwriter, singer and guitarist Joe Mulherin, and Void Eternal is his boldest offering yet; 12 tracks that journey into the darkness-a path that he walks down as far as it will go.
Optiki Mousiki – Tomos 2 [Reissue/1994] 2xLP (Heat Crimes)
From 1984 until 1987, Greek artist Costis Drygianakis and a ramshackle assembly of friends and collaborators produced a slew of recordings under the name Optiki Mousiki, or Optical Musics. Their first full-length, Tomos 1, was released in 1987 and documented a prolific early period, combining grizzly industrial noise elements with dizzying electro-acoustic experiments and wild instrumental stings. Tomos 2 is a collection of work taken from the band’s second epoch after a brief hiatus; released in 1994, it arrived after a long period of self-reflection from Drygianakis about not only what his own music represented, but what avant-garde art might be useful for in general. A very different album from its predecessor, it attempts to question popular ideas of taste, folding together “non-serious” musical ideas with traditional elements while tentatively drawing from the spiritual world both near and far, from the lives of the Christian saints to tales of Tibetan Buddhism, Sufism and Hinduism.
Otto – Life Is A Game LP (Org Music)
Purple color vinyl pressing. Double-stuffed with melody, Ottto throw it all down within a potent DIY punk attitude, infused with plenty of alternative chemical imbalance. “My Pain”, “Skyscraper” and the ultra-dynamic “Night Howlers” are loaded with the sort of grease, grime, and funkified riffage that can only come from the hearts and minds of unpasteurized, raw warriors.

[An indie store exclusive green colorway is available.]
Phish – Farmhouse [Reissue/2000] 2xLP (Jemp)
Double vinyl “Northern Lights” pressing housed in foil embossed gatefold jacket. 2000 release, Phish’s ninth full-length studio album. Most songs on the album, including the title track, were derived from 1997 writing sessions at Vermont farmhouses. Farmhouse was recorded and mixed by John Siket in fall 1999 and winter 2000 at The Barn studio in Vermont. Trey arranged the horns for “Gotta Jibboo” (Dave Grippo, Jen Hartswick, Andy Moroz) and strings for “Dirt” and the acoustic instrumental “The Inlaw Josie Wales”, which included Béla Fleck on banjo and Jerry Douglas on dobro.

A vibrant production guided by provocative vocals, title track “Miss Tony” featuring Sugar Shane, welcomes a wealth of inspiration from across the house and disco spheres, with resonant sax riffs meeting crisp percussion and bubbling bass grooves. Next, the low-end heavy “Inner Child” is a garage-soaked heavy-hitter made for the peak time as a commanding Reese bassline is coupled with skippy hats and Mizbee’s infectious vocal hooks, before ‘Juicy Roots’ closes the show with another energy fueled production fusing sweeping synths and a commanding, driving groove.

V Is For Vagina features a significantly different, electronic sound and arrangements than Keenan’s other bands: the progressive Tool and alternative A Perfect Circle. Keenan himself compared the album’s sound to driving around in your car listening to those old Motown hits, James Brown, and cool R&B stuff.
Recorded at Rani’s apartment in Warsaw (the piano room has a beautiful reverb and the space has become part art studio and part sound laboratory for Rani) and at her friend Bergur Þórisson’s studio in Reykjavik, Esja is a series of beautiful melodic vignettes, inspired by, Berlin, Iceland and the wild mountains in Bieszczady as well as a love of art and architecture. Sensual, sensitive, rhythmic, atmospheric, free but harmonious, beguiling and hypnotic, collectively they project a sense of unlimited space and time.

Archie Shepp – There’s A Trumpet In My Soul [Reissue/1975] LP (Org Music)
There’s A Trumpet In My Soul is the 1975 album from avant-garde tenor saxophonist Archie Shepp, recorded in April of the same year at Sound Ideas Studio in New York City. The record is comprised of two three-part suites and the 10 minute “Down In Brazil”, among which are two vocal parts and a poem recitation. The outing finds Shepp, then in his musical prime, backed by a stellar group of players that grows to 13 pieces at times. This crew includes Ray Draper (tuba), Charles Greenlee (trombone) Dave Burrell (piano), and Jimmy Garrison (bass), among others.
The Solution – Will Not Be Televised [Reissue/2007] LP (Bang)

Steady Hands – Cheap Fiction LP (Lame-O)
Blue color vinyl pressing. Sean Huber, best known as the drummer of the beloved & defunct band Modern Baseball, has been releasing music with his band Steady Hands since 2013. Back for the first time since 2018 with new album “Cheap Fiction,” Huber pays homage to all the deities you’d expect someone with a New Jersey birth certificate and a dog named Bruce to worship, with rollicking saxophone and piano over tales of hard-on-their-luck neighborhoods, and stadium-rock-ready guitar zaps over odes to the misrepresented people of Florida.

Sun Ra and His Interplanetary Vocal Arkestra – The Space Age Is Here To Stay [Reissue/2016] 2xLP (Modern Harmonic)
‘Lunar blue’ color vinyl pressing. Across the history of jazz, there is no wilder, more future-forward composer and performer than Herman Poole Blount, aka Sun Ra. Known as much for his wild on-stage persona as his innovative compositions, Sun Ra was the avant-garde bleeding edge of the jazz genre, introducing modal composition and electronic instrumentation before almost anyone else – not to mention bringing the space age to life with his obsession with all things extraterrestrial. Across more than 100 LPs released in his lifetime, Sun Ra charted a course to space and far, far beyond.

Teenage Jesus and The Jerks – Teenage Jesus and The Jerks [Reissue/1979] LP (Radiation)
Teenage Jesus and The Jerks – Live 1977–1979 LP (Radiation)
During the late 1970s, after no wave pioneer Lydia Lunch met saxophonist James Chance, she began setting her angry and disjointed poetry to anti-music, founding her ground-breaking band Teenage Jesus and The Jerks with Lunch’s shouted lyrics matched by her non-conventional use of electric guitar. The group’s self-titled debut EP is a fast and furious affair, produced by Robert Quine Of The Voidoids/Lou Reed, with future Nick Cave drummer Jim Sclavunos on bass and Bradley Field on minimalist percussion; steeped in aggression and audacity, it’s an awesome disc that rebuffs punk’s easy cliches and refuses to be categorized. This reissue also includes the Pre EP and the tracks from the legendary No New York compilation. Live 1977–1979 is a must-have live anthology culled from six performances undertaken during their heyday, these atonal, in-your-face blasts somehow even more caustic than their studio work, rendering an aural assault not for the fainthearted.

Limited white color vinyl pressing. Italia Synthetica 1981-1985 represents the musical mutation that occurred after the post-punk hangover gave way to more frigid emotional shores, in-line with the synth-wave moment that was sweeping Europe and the white cliffs of Albion. This scene flourished in Italy between 1981-1985, and the musicians that came out of it are still revered today (particularly in the US). Robotic rhythms and intuitions that, besides sharing common ground with the electronic movements that had come before, also knew how to fill up the dance floor.
