Social Media Program Titles Released This Week:
Jeremy Ivey – Waiting Out The Storm LP+MP3 (ANTI-)
Nashville-based performer Jeremy Ivey has operated in the background for years as a songwriter/guitarist with his wife, celebrated country-rock luminary Margo Price. Ivey is back in the spotlight with his sophomore solo album Waiting Out The Storm. Produced by Price, the ten-song album finds Jeremy Ivey expanding his sound with his band The Extraterrestrials. On Waiting Out The Storm, an album with electricity coursing through its veins, Ivey zooms out to take a widescreen look at the world around us—the landscape, the people that populate it, and the ways in which we help each other survive against all odds. Ivey, who writes prolifically and cites Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan as influences, evokes “Mutations-era Beck along with classic country” (Rolling Stone). His solo material travels through a wide spectrum of classic folk, gently frayed psychedelia, pop, and a bit of Southern rock.
Sasha Sloan – Only Child CD/LP (RCA)
On her full-length debut album, Only Child, Sasha Sloan steps into her own as a profoundly affecting artist and one of music’s most gifted lyricists. Only Child showcases Sasha’s bravery and willingness to put her vulnerabilities on display, with tracks like “Lie” and “House With No Mirrors.” Sasha continues to deliver music that weaves her powerful words and beautifully crafted melodies. “This album is a very mature version of me,” Sasha says. “It’s the most honest I’ve been. And there’s even a twinge of hope in there, which is new for me!” The album, which Sasha has been working on since 2019 and finished in quarantine, is bold, confessional, funny and real.
November Marketing Program/ Banner/ Listening Station Titles Promoted This Week:
Autechre – Sign CD/2xLP+MP3 (Warp)
Practically pocket-sized in comparison to their sprawling torrent of live material and radio recordings in recent years, Sign is a return to the sort of concision found circa Exai and their earlier albums. Effectively they’ve gotten better to grips with their live set-up, and the hyper ideas found in their work-in-progress demonstrations on the five volume Elseq and eight hours of NTS Sessions have been refined into moments of crystalline ambient baroque beauty and liquid-limbed swag on Sign. After their music has undergone what could be called a growth spurt in recent years, the acrid plasma of their complex, hyper-inorganic systems feels to congeal, create more intricate snaps across the album.
Matt Berninger – Serpentine Prison CD/LP (Concord)
Serpentine Prison is the debut solo record from The National frontman Matt Berninger. Berninger, known for his distinctive voice and expansive live performances, has won praise from NPR Music for his “whiskey-soaked baritone” while Uproxx hails Berninger as “a master class in how to front a band.” According to The New Yorker, “fans of The National have had plenty of time to acclimate to Berninger’s voice, a heady, lumbering baritone, yet it’s worth reiterating its singularity.” Produced by famed Memphis multi-instrumentalist Booker T. Jones, Serpentine Prison features contributions from a wide array of notable artists, including Matt Barrick (The Walkmen, Jonathan Fire*Eater), Andrew Bird, Mike Brewer, Hayden Desser, Scott Devendorf (The National), Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie, Lenny Kravitz), Booker T. Jones, Teddy Jones, Brent Knopf (EL VY, Menomena), Ben Lanz (The National, Beirut), Walter Martin (The Walkmen, Jonathan Fire*Eater), Sean O’Brien, Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan), Kyle Resnick (The National, Beirut), Matt Sheehy (EL VY, Lost Lander) and Harrison Whitford (Phoebe Bridgers).
Cordovas – Destiny Hotel CD/LP (ATO)
Cordovas’ new album Destiny Hotel is a work of wild poetry and wide-eyed abandon, set to a glorious collision of folk and country and groove-heavy rock-and-roll. In a major creative milestone for the Tennessee-based band – vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Joe Firstman, keyboardist Sevans Henderson, guitarist/vocalist Lucca Soria and vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Toby Weaver – the album harnesses the freewheeling energy of their live show more fully than ever, all while lifting their songwriting to a whole new level of sophistication. The result is a batch of songs that ruminate and rhapsodize with equal intensity, inviting endless celebration on the way to transcendence. [Limited colored vinyl pressing also available.]
Deep Sea Diver – Impossible Weight CD/LP (ATO)
Impossible Weight, the third full-length from Deep Sea Diver, is a work of sublime highs and mesmerizing lows, its restless intensity both unsettling and transcendent. Co-produced by bandleader Jessica Dobson and Andy D. Park, the album’s lush textures and mercurial arrangements reveal the limitless imagination of Dobson’s guitar work (which she’s previously shown in playing lead guitar for Beck and The Shins) and fully illuminates the power of her vocals. “I’d never produced a record before and I started out with low expectations for myself, but at some point I realized, ‘I can do this,'” Dobson recalls. “I decided to completely trust my voice and make really bold decisions in all my production calls – just push everything to the absolute outer edges.”
Def Leppard – Hits Vegas: Live At Planet Hollywood 2xCD (Eagle Rock Entertainment)
Just after their induction in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2019, Def Leppard undertook a residency in Las Vegas at Zappos Theatre in Planet Hollywood. Hits Vegas: Live At Planet Hollywood is a deep dive into not only their greatest hits, but rarities such as “Too Late For Love”, “Billy’s Got A Gun”, “Slang” and “Promises”. Highlighting Def Leppard’s versatility, Hits Vegas presents a livewire show punctuated with intimate, acoustic renditions of rarely performed songs like “Let Me Be The One”, “We Belong”, “Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad” and “Two Steps Behind”. This set truly encapsulates the prestige of one of rock’s most iconic bands. [Vinyl edition due December 11.]
Def Leppard – Hysteria At The O2 2xCD (Eagle Rock Entertainment)
The legacy of Hysteria is undeniable. A classic album that was four years in the making, it dominated the charts for two years, achieved certified Diamond status and brought worldwide superstardom to Def Leppard back in 1987. Then in December 2018, Sheffield’s finest made their long-awaited debut at London’s O2 Arena and to honor the event, Def Leppard performed the ground-breaking album in its entirety.
Tom Petty – Wildflowers & All The Rest 4xCD/3xLP/7xLP (WB)
Originally released on November 1, 1994, Wildflowers – a single CD with 15 songs, still more than an hour in length – was Tom’s most acutely confessional album to date. This expanded reissue, available in three editions, collects a wealth of material recorded during the same time period but didn’t make it on the finished LP: The four CD deluxe edition contains 54 tracks, 8 unreleased songs, and 24 unreleased alternate versions. In addition to the 15 track original album (remastered in 2020), the deluxe edition contains the album All The Rest (10 songs from the original Wildflowers sessions), a full CD of 15 solo demos recorded by Petty at his home studio, and a disc of 14 live versions of Wildflowers songs recorded from 1995 – 2017. The triple vinyl edition contains the original 1994 Wildflowers album (remastered in 2020) with 15 tracks across two LPs while a third disc features All The Rest, the 10 songs from the Wildflowers sessions that were left off the album, five of which are previously unreleased. It also includes lyrics to all the songs on Wildflowers & All The Rest. The deluxe seven LP set adds a double LP of 15 solo demos recorded by Petty at his home studio, and an additional double LP of 14 live versions of Wildflowers songs recorded from 1995-2017. The deluxe packaging includes a 60-page book, an introduction by Rick Rubin (the original producer), an essay by David Fricke, a complete track-by-track, and rare photos and specially commissioned illustrations.

Alongside additional mixing by Steven Wilson, Anathema also brought in the legendary services of Dave Stewart to create the album’s extraordinary orchestral arrangements.
After their music has undergone what could be called a growth spurt in recent years, the acrid plasma of their complex, hyper-inorganic systems feels to congeal, create more intricate snaps across the album.
beabadoobee – Fake It Flowers CD/LP (Dirty Hit)
Earning the 2020 Brit Award for Rising Star, beabadoobee has navigated the world of global touring, viral fame and musical creation to work towards a dazzling debut album. Fake It Flowers is a testament to this. Bea adopts a mature sound, where her familiar warm, fuzzy lo-fi lies between strings and melodies, bringing the raw honesty of her DIY roots into a new era.
Benediction – Scriptures CD/LP (Nuclear Blast)
Benediction return to the fold with a crushing new album. Scriptures has that typical Benediction death metal core, fused with the punk rock anger and attitude, the heavy metal powertrain riffing that’s become a staple for the band. [Limited red/black swirl colored vinyl pressing also available.]
Michel Benita Quartet – Looking At Sounds CD (ECM)
A mainstay of the French jazz scene, Algeria-born bassist Michel Benita’s new project, Looking At Sounds, introduces his revised quartet: Matthieu Michel (flugelhorn) and Philippe Garcia (drums) from his band, Ethics, plus Jozef Dumoulin (keyboard). Dumoulin’s swirling sounds inspired Benita to write the evocative new music.
Zazou Bikaye – Mr. Manager [Reissue/1985] CD/LP+MP3 (Crammed Disc US)
In 1984, after the Afro-experimental adventures of Noir et Blanc, Zazou Bikaye turned into a proper band, and started developing their own special brand of digital Afrobeat/Afrofunk. Hector Zazou took on the task of writing and programming the music, and Bony Bikaye expanded on the more extrovert side of his vocal styles. They set out to record a large number of tracks, five of which came out in 1985 as Mr. Manager, a 32-minute mini-album. [The CD edition comprises nine additional tracks, including six previously-unreleased recordings, and three which were only included on limited-edition singles. The vinyl version has eight tracks, plus a download card giving access to all fourteen tracks.]
John Blum and Jackson Krall – Duplexity CD (Relative Pitch)
“A pianist of undeniable virtuosity and uncompromising intensity, John Blum has impressed free-jazz aficionados since the early 2000s with his uniquely potent approach to his instrument. One can easily hear the influence of Cecil Taylor in his ferocious, jaw-dropping power; but just as important are his ties to earlier pianists. There is just as much Art Tatum as Taylor in Blum’s manic flights, as lightning-quick stride passages are as likely to surface as his more concussive thunderings. Fortunately, he’s teamed here with a drummer eminently capable of matching his seemingly limitless energy, as Jackson Krall was Taylor’s go-to drummer for fourteen years starting in the late 1990s and he brings a massive sound, with his own deep reserves of strength.” – All About Jazz
Matthieu Bordenave/Patrice Moret/Florian Weber – La Traversée CD (ECM)
French saxophonist Matthieu Bordenave’s first leader for ECM introduces new project, La Traversée, with German pianist Florian Weber and Swiss bassist Patrice Moret. Exploring between contemporary composition and jazz, it’s subtly influenced by innovations of the Jimmy Giuffre 3, guided by an approach to trio playing “in which melodic lines interweave and blossom in the nuances of tones, as each musician follows his intuition.”
Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown – Pressure CD/LP (Spinefarm)
Pressure, Midwest rockers Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown’s fourth studio album, features 13 new numbers including a re-recorded version of “Crazy Days”, plus guest appearances from Rebecca Lovell (on three tracks) and Blackberry Smoke’s Charlie Starr (“Holdin’ My Breath”). Kevin Burt – Stone Crazy CD (Gulf Coast)
Kevin Burt has been plying his trade as an electrifying bluesman for more than a quarter of a century, in the process dispelling the myth that true blues has no roots in Iowa. Burt delivers soul blues with conviction; he sings and plays guitar and harmonica. This is real front-porch soul. His voice draws you in, rich and smooth and emotive.
Desmond Child And Rouge – Desmond Child And Rouge [Reissue/1979] CD (BMG)
Desmond Child And Rouge – Runners In The Night [Reissue/1979] CD (BMG)
CD reissues of the lone two pop/soul albums (both released in 1979) from super pop/rock songwriter Desmond Child (Bon Jovi, Cher, Aerosmith, KISS).

A classic album that was four years in the making, it dominated the charts for two years, achieved certified Diamond status and brought worldwide superstardom to Def Leppard back in 1987. Then in December 2018, Sheffield’s finest made their long-awaited debut at London’s O2 Arena and to honor the event, Def Leppard performed the ground-breaking album in its entirety.
Helena Deland – Someone New CD/LP (Luminelle)
“Helena Deland’s debut album, Someone New, is less of an introduction and more of an affirmation. From the opening line to the last muffled chord, Someone New is a viscerally candid exercise in vulnerability; Deland constructs an effigy of herself to engulf in flames, hopeful she’ll rise from the ashes reborn. This is an album that demands your full attention, sucking all the air out of the room and leaving you to drift in the grey matter of Deland’s mind. After the last notes fade to black, the ghost of Someone New continues to haunt you — it’s an utterly unforgettable record.” – The Line Of Best Fit
Ian Dury – Hit Me! The Best Of Ian Dury 3xCD/2xLP (BMG)
It is not difficult to call Ian Dury the very epitome of British rock music in the ’70s. The rough charm of his bawdy Cockney accent, spiced with snotty rock, which he often belted out in a signature pogo-punk style, was just the thing for the boulevard and lent a voice to the British working class. His penchant for the grotesque, which he often expressed in the most vulgar of words or what Sounds magazine described as “brutal fairground music,” gave birth to a “collection of weird characters who were looking for a home on vinyl,” as the Village Voice observed. [Vinyl edition contains 20 tracks.]
The Eagles – Live From The Forum MMXVII 2xCD/2xCD+DVD/2xCD+Blu-ray/4xLP (Rhino)
The Eagles spent most of 2018 on the road with an extensive North American tour that found Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit joined by two new bandmates: Deacon Frey and Vince Gill. Earning rave reviews from fans and critics alike, the quintet was firing on all cylinders when they arrived at the Forum in Los Angeles for three sold-out, hometown shows on September 12, 14, and 15. Highlights from all three shows have now been compiled for a new 26-song live album Live From The Forum MMXVIII. This release captures definitive live performances of the band’s most iconic hits (“Hotel California”, “Take It Easy”, “Life In The Fast Lane”, “Desperado”) and beloved album tracks (“Ol’ 55”, “Those Shoes”), along with some of the individual members’ biggest solo smashes (Don Henley’s “Boys Of Summer”, Vince Gill’s “Don’t Let Our Love Start Slippin’ Away”, and Joe Walsh’s “Rocky Mountain Way”).
Wendy Eisenberg – Auto CD (Ba Da Bing!)
Drawing the connections between Wendy Eisenberg’s releases feels like undertaking a wide-ranging investigation. Albums of wildly inventive guitar, tempo-shifting avant rock and curiously leftfield pop fit together as offerings of Eisenberg’s curious mind. On Auto, their most innovative and inner-reaching album yet, Eisenberg explores emotional, subjective truth, and how it interacts with an objectivity no person alone can grasp. Inspired by the solo work of Mark Hollis (Talk Talk) and David Sylvian’s Blemish, with playing skills that have already seen them climbing Best Guitarist lists and an unvarnished vocal immediacy, Wendy Eisenberg has created an album of subtle display that resonates with maximal impact. [Vinyl edition due October 30.]
Everything In Slow Motion – Influence CD (Facedown)
New album from the ever-evolving, hard rock-meets-post-hardcore project. [Vinyl edition due December 18.]

Hannah Georgas – All That Emotion CD (Brassland)
A collaboration with producer Aaron Dessner of The National, Hannah Georgas’ All That Emotion was finalized well-before this unprecedented year of upheaval, and features deeply personal songs about reckoning with the past. Yet the record’s warm, enveloping sound and lyrical themes of change and resilience fittingly calm and comfort human hearts frayed by these trying times. [Vinyl edition due November 6.]
Goldmund – The Time It Takes CD/LP (Western Vinyl)
Pennsylvania native Keith Kenniff’s output as Goldmund has established him as one of the preeminent composers of minimal piano-based ambient music alongside peers like Hauschka, Dustin O’Halloran, and even Ryuichi Sakamoto, who himself once described Kenniff’s work as so, so, so beautiful. His recordings tread sincerely along paths laden with dusty timbres, diffuse synthesizer, and soaring string textures tinted by the muted glow of a cloudy analog sky above. On The Time It Takes, Goldmund’s newest book of aural polaroids, Kenniff somehow manages to deepen the emotionality of his already affecting project, creating a space in which to unfold the sorrows of a troubling age and revel in the hope and beauty that follow thereafter. In this sense, The Time it Takes tackles grief head-on, unadorned by themes of escapism or pastorality, and marks another entry in an impressively consistent body of work.
Anthony Gomes – Containment Blues CD (BFD)
“Anthony Gomes follows up 2018’s Peace, Loud, And Loud Guitars with Containment Blues. Peace, Love, And Loud Guitars was voted Blues Rock Review’s #1 album of 2018, so definitely some expectations for the follow-up. This album was inspired by the pandemic and is a bit more back to basics and raw than the balls to walls rock of Peace, Loud, And Loud Guitars. Gomes told Blues Rock Review in a recent interview he has a more rockish album nearly complete called Rock And Roll Blues Man, but felt now wasn’t the time to release an album like that.” – Blues Rock Review
Gudars Skymning – Olycksfågel CD (Transubstans Sweden)

Steve Hackett – Selling England By The Pound & Spectral Mornings 2xCD+DVD (Century Media)
This live set recorded during a very special tour for Steve Hackett as it brought together his favorite album from his time as guitarist with Genesis – 1973’s Selling England By The Pound – which Steve and his band performed live in its entirety for the first time. The show also featured selected tracks from Steve’s personal favorite album from his extensive solo career Spectral Mornings, together with tracks from his acclaimed 2019 release At The Edge Of Light.
Hawkestrel – Pioneers Of Space CD/LP (Purple Pyramid)

Shankar, David Cross, Arthur Brown, Wayne Kramer, Carmine Appice, Larry Wallis, Joel Vandroogenbroeck, Gilli Smith and Adam Hamilton. Inferi is an American technical death metal band forged in the depths of Nashville, TN. [Vinyl edition due November 6.]
Inferna Bruo – Rites Of The Nameless CD/LP (Prosthetic)
A six part subterranean odyssey through modern blackened metal. Threads of ritualistic transformation are woven throughout the fabric of the album, embedded in the roots of the ensemble’s creative vision. Calling upon the occult and the power of magick to affirm their path forwards has resulted in a bold collection of songs that bristle with defiance and aggression, with subtle nods to classic metal and progressive rock. [Limited colored vinyl pressing also available.]
Mav Karlo – Strangers Like Us CD/LP (Royal Mountain)
Produced by Chris Coady (Amen Dunes, Beach House, Future Islands) and recorded at two iconic studios (Sunset Sound in L.A. and Sonic Ranch in the Texas border town of Tornillo), Strangers Like Us marks a departure from the carefree indie-rock of Versteeg’s now-defunct band Hollerado. With its gracefully sparse arrangements, the album centers on Versteeg’s lyrical storytelling, revealing a narrative voice deeply attuned to the beauty in the ordinary and routinely overlooked. Despite that stripped-back approach, Strangers Like Us draws incredibly rich texture from Versteeg’s delicate melodies and warm vocal work, and from the spirited performances of guest musicians like Katy Goodman of Vivian Girls (on vocals), Charlie Spencer of Dizzy (keys, drums), and Versteeg’s Hollerado bandmate Nixon Boyd (guitar, bass).
Kingdom Of Giants – Passenger CD (Sharptone)
While firmly rooted in classic metalcore elements, familiar to fans of Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying or international counterparts like Architects UK and Northlane, six-piece California band Kingdom Of Giants bravely color outside the lines of the safe and predictable. [Vinyl edition due November 27.]
Gladys Knight & The Pips – Essential 1961-1965 2xCD (Sunset Blvd.)

Loscil – coast/ range/ arc // CD (Kranky)
Named after the geographic formations of the seismically volatile Cascadian coastal mountains, Loscil’s coast/range/arc// reissue features new artwork and an additional track. “coast/ range/ arc// represents a solid and compelling expansion of Loscil’s sound” (Dusted). “Vancouver-based sound sculptor Scott Morgan doesn’t make bad albums” (Exclaim!). “This is ambient music in the classic sense” (Boomkat). [Vinyl edition due October 30.]
Leyla McCalla – Vari-Colored Songs CD/LP (Smithsonian Folkways)
Leyla McCalla’s Vari-Colored Songs is a celebration of the complexity of Black culture and identity, and a tribute to the legacy of poet and thinker Langston Hughes. A songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, McCalla sets Hughes’ poems to her own spare yet profound compositions. She juxtaposes these with arrangements of folk songs from Haiti, the first independent Black nation and the homeland of her parents, tapping into the nuances of Black experience. McCalla’s music elegantly weaves Haitian influences together with American folk music, just as Hughes incorporated Black vernacular into his remarkable poetry, and the way the Haitian Kreyòl is a beacon for the survival of African identity through the brutal legacy of colonialism.
Katie Melua – Album No. 8 CD/LP (BMG)
A gloriously cinematic exploration of love, with lyrics written by acclaimed Georgian-British singer-songwriter Katie Melua, and production by Leo Abrahams – Album No. 8 is a true tour-de-force of artistic and lyrical maturity. It’s impossible to miss the sense that this is someone enjoying new ways to address the complexities of pop’s oldest subject matter.
Mipso – Mipso CD (Rounder)
Mipso’s highly anticipated follow-up to the North Carolina quartet’s acclaimed 2018 album Edges Run, furthers the band’s ever-growing reputation as a potent musical force. The Mipso LP arrives as the group’s most communally realized work to date – a triumph that’s especially remarkable considering they discussed breaking up after the release of Edges Run. But members – Wood Robinson, Libby Rodenbough, Jacob Sharp, and Joseph Terrell, each a songwriter and lead singer in the band – doubled down on their commitment to each other. They emerged with the strongest artistic statement of their career thus far. [Vinyl edition due October 30.]
Molassess – Through The Hollow CD/2xLP (Season Of Mist)
Molassess was beckoned to life as a commissioned performance for the 2019 edition of Roadburn Festival, five years after The Devil’s Blood – a chaotic coterie of musical misfits lead by efficacious guitarist Selim Lemouchi – ended their fever dance. The invitation inspired new shoots of creativity to blossom where death had walked. Their music is more prog and psychedelic rock focused.
Joey Molland – Be True To Yourself CD (Omnivore)
Joey Molland’s (of Badfinger fame) first album of new material in nearly 10 years.
Kevin Morby – Sundowner CD/LP (Dead Oceans)
“Ever a songwriter with a sense of journey, Morby’s lyrics mix the autobiographical with abstractions of the everyday, iconography is given entirely new meaning as you witness an artist’s wonderfully unique perspective. Within the sound of Sundowner you are taken outside to look upon a wonderful vista, feel the gravel crunch under your feet, the wind running through your hair as a chime sings in the distance. The instrumentation and guitar playing in particular can sometimes feel like a serenade, to encapsulate such place and time easily lends credit to the talent of this songwriter and all of a sudden, you are a sundowner too.” – Clash Music [Limited opaque yellow colored vinyl pressing also available.]
NCT – The 2nd Album RESONANCE Pt. 1 [Future Ver.] CD (SM Entertainment)
NCT – The 2nd Album RESONANCE Pt. 1 [Past Ver.] CD (SM Entertainment)

New release from highly acclaimed rapper featuring production from Black Milk, Gold Panda and Frank Leone.
Optic Sink – Optic Sink CD (Goner)
With Optic Sink, Natalie Hoffmann (NOTS) creates a musical paradox: an endeavor that doesn’t really seem to belong to any particular time or place, constructed with sounds that are synthesized and stripped down, yet bristling with urgency and brutalist emotion. The project took shape in 2018, when NOTS were on a break to write and woodshed music for 3, and Hoffmann began experimenting on her four-track recorder. Optic Sink surfaced as a performance soon after, appearing at bars, venues and festivals, including Memphis Concrète and SXSW. Hoffmann drives Optic Sink in live performances and on the self-titled debut album, with percussionist
Ben Bauermeister (Magic Kids, Toxie, A55 Conducta) collaborating from the co-pilot’s seat. Setting up camp on the post-punk side of the minimal electronic scene, Optic Sink eschew computers for a warmer, decidedly human soundscape. [Vinyl edition due October 23.]

Tobin Sprout – Empty Horses CD/LP (Fire)
Artist, illustrator, writer and lo-fi innovator, Tobin Sprout was the super-productive partner of Robert Pollard in the legendary Guided By Voices. The gifted songwriter returns with a pensive, expansive part autobiographical new album Empty Horses. Here he’s part Townes Van Zandt, part John Prine, part Robbie Robertson at his retrospective best. The album is a meticulously observed study of America and Americana (not the music, but the state of mind). An alternative American Songbook, if you will, a collection of laments to simpler times and the struggle for what’s right, peppered with an examination of faith and the search for a sense of justice. Close up and personal, Empty Horses is a poignant carefully etched experience, a rolling journey in modern times, nodding back to tradition, a personal snapshot filled with honesty.

Reverend John Wilkins – Trouble CD (Goner)
To call the Reverend John Wilkins a national treasure would not be an overstatement. He is the son of pre-war blues/folk-revival legend Reverend Robert Wilkins and he leads one of the most exciting and uplifting musical acts on the blues and gospel circuit today. His multiracial, multi-generational band blends soul, southern gospel and hill country rhythm, into a sound that has the infectious drive of hill country blues with the emotional heights of a summer tent revival. Woodkid – S16 CD/2xLP (Caroline)

A compilation spanning Wyatt’s decades-long career. The collection, originally released as a Japanese edition, includes selections dating from Rock Bottom (1974) to Cuckooland (2003), although it’s running order is non-chronological. So, when Chicago’s Vic Spencer and Verbal Kent joined forces with the UK’s Sonnyjim (who also produced the entire album) to form the group Iron Wigs, you know it’d be a vibe. Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. From the pinnacle of confrontational instrumental extremity and steadfast lyrical humanity, Napalm Death’s new album Throes Of Joy In The Jaws Of Defeatism warps musical landscapes all over again. The 16th studio album by UK’s Gods of Grind and much-anticipated follow-up to 2015’s acclaimed Apex Predator – Easy Meat includes 12 songs seething with caustic evolution and unrelenting scope. “”The artwork specifically uses a white dove as a centerpiece, which of course is a commonly recognized symbol of peace and cooperation. The dove has been mauled very violently by a sterilizing hand and in death appears particularly broken and bloodied. However, through the violence you can see an equality symbol in blood on the chest of the dove, which perhaps demonstrates – visually at least – that equality cuts through in the end. A positive amidst many negatives then, much like the album title itself being a bit of an oxymoron – the celebration of humanity even in the mangling jaws of negativity.” – Napalm Death Vocalist Barney Greenway

Sam Roberts Band – All Of Us LP (Known Accomplice)
There has always been a unique spirit that has infused the music of Sam Roberts Band. It’s highlighted by melodies that are infectious, lyrics that are deep and somewhat enigmatic, but memorable, and a live show that just plain rocks. The music of Sam Roberts Band isn’t always easy to categorize either. It’s been often lumped in with other alternative or alternative rock bands, but there is also a substantial 1980s melodic rock vibe, mixed in with the best of 1990s Brit Pop. [CD version due October 23.]
Sigur Rós – ( ) [Reissue/2002] 2xLP (Krunk)
Sigur Rós’s celebrated third album, and for many people – especially in US where it remains their biggest selling work – the most quintessentially Sigur Rós record of their career to date. It is the only album where Jónsi sings entirely in the wordless lyrics of Hopelandic. A desire to elide meaning and allow the listener to bring their own interpretation to the music, extends to the eight songs, all of which are nameless. The music is broadly divided into two halves, divided by a critical 36 seconds of silence. The first half of the album being lighter and more optimistic, and the second half bleaker and more melancholic, culminating in the thundering climax of “Untitled #8”, the closing song of every Sigur Rós show since the song was written in 2000.
