Coldplay – Music Of The Spheres CD/LP (Atlantic)

Coldplay’s ninth studio album, Music Of The Spheres, was produced by hitmaker Max Martin and features twelve tracks, five of which are represented by emojis. The British pop-rock giants follow-up to 2019’s Everyday Life is introduced by the cosmic lead single “Higher Power” and experimental 10-minute closer “Coloratura”, an exhilarating, space-bound epic that includes namechecks for Galileo, Oumuamua and Betelgeuse. The band hints at further sci-fi themes with the note, “Everyone is an alien somewhere.” [A limited-edition color vinyl pressing is also available.]

Norah Jones – I Dream Of Christmas CD/LP (Blue Note)

Norah Jones has been a steady voice of warmth and reassurance for nearly 20 years since her cozy 2002 debut album Come Away With Me became a familiar musical companion for millions of people around the world. Now the nine-time Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and pianist has made her first-ever holiday album with I Dream Of Christmas, a delightful and comforting collection of timeless seasonal favorites and affecting new originals that explore the complicated emotions of our times and our hopes that this holiday season will be full of joy and togetherness.

Toby Keith – Peso In My Pocket CD (Show Dog, LLC)

Singer/songwriter Toby Keith releases his first all-new in more than five years. Peso In My Pocket was co-produced with Kenny Greenberg and features the highest Billboard Country Airplay chart debut of his career with the lead single “Old School”. Though Keith has accomplished much since the 2015 release of 35 MPH Town – perhaps most notably in writing the Clint Eastwood inspired “Don’t Let The Old Man In” – a new studio album was long overdue. Peso In My Pocket has more than a little to do with the worldwide pandemic. “My whole musical career, I haven’t been off the road this long,” Keith says, calling 2020 “a reset button I never would have hit.” [Vinyl edition due December 10.]

Aaliyah – I Care 4 U [Reissue/2001] CD (Empire)

I Care 4 U is the first posthumous compilation album by the “Princess of R&B,” Aaliyah. Following her tragic and untimely passing, Blackground Records released a posthumous record including songs from her studio albums and previously unreleased tracks and demos, as well as hit singles and recordings that ultimately did not land on any previous albums. This 2001 compilation album was a commercial success and debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum. It features the previously unreleased “Miss You.”

Aaliyah – Ultimate Aaliyah [Reissue/2005] 2xCD (Empire)

Ultimate Aaliyah is the second and final compilation album by R&B singer Aaliyah. Originally released by Blackground Records in only the UK, Australia, and Japan, the 2005 double album features one disc of Aaliyah’s greatest hits and a disc entitled Are You Feelin’ Me? containing material from soundtracks and featured work with labelmate Timbaland.

Cimafunk – El Alimento CD (Terapia Productions)

El Alimento (translation: the nutrient) is the monumental second album from Cimafunk, the Cuban medical-student-turned-Latin-funk-star who crash-landed onto the music scene with his debut album Terapia in 2017 and an electric live show that been compared to that of James Brown. The sonically dynamic collection masterfully blends Afro-Cuban sounds and rhythms with global funk, hip-hop and soul—resulting in a progressive, head-bopping celebration of black music’s power to eclipse borders and cross-pollinate across cultures. Written and recorded over the last year, the album served as an alimento for the soul, a motivation to persevere through the pandemic, as Cimafunk spent countless hours studying decades of musical influences to help understand who he is musically and culturally, and thus, where he wanted this album to take him. As innovative funk forefather George Clinton (Parliament-Funkadelic), who sings alongside Cimafunk on the opening track “Funk Aspirin”, says: “Cimafunk takes it back there while keeping it in the now. It’s what we do, always reinventing the Funk to keep it fresh.” [Vinyl edition due in 2022.]

The Record Company – Play Loud CD (Concord)

The Record Company has outgrown the home recording of previous records and enlisted Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Sardy (Fall Out Boy, A Perfect Circle, Modest Mouse) to work with them on their third studio album, Play Loud. It also finds the band collaborating with outside songwriters for the first time ever, including Kevin Griffin and Sam Hollander on single “How High”. The result is a sonic growth both in music and in songwriting, highlighting an ever-evolving band bringing rock back to the masses. On Play Loud, the group stretches out artistically and explores their far-flung influences. “On the first two albums, people might have thought we were three guys who sit around a campfire, praying to Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker, and we’re not,” notes bassist Alex Stiff. “We’re three different guys with different musical tastes. It’s time for all of us to show our individuality, and this record shows us evolving.” [Indie store exclusive vinyl edition due October 29.]

Ada Lea – One Hand On the Steering Wheel The Other Sewing A Garden CD/LP+MP3 (Saddle Creek)

One Hand On The Steering Wheel the Other Sewing A Garden is the second album by Canadian songwriter Alexandra Levy, publicly known by the moniker Ada Lea. On one hand, it’s a collection of walking-paced, cathartic pop/folk songs; on the other, it’s a book of heart-twisting, rear-view stories of city life. The album is set in Montreal and each song exists as a dot on a personal history map of the city where Levy grew up. Many of the songs on one hand came together with a blend of studio tracks and elements from the pre-recorded demos. The resulting sounds range from classic, soft-rock beauty to intimate finger-picked folk passages and night-drive art-pop. And the textures are frequently surprising due to the collage of lo-fi and hi-fi sounds that tastefully decorate the album without ever clouding the heart-center of the song. Angels & Airwaves – Lifeforms CD/LP (BMG)

The Tom DeLonge-fronted Angels & Airwaves return with their sixth studio album, Lifeforms. It’s been seven years since multi-platinum rockers have played a show and three years since they’ve released new music. The album is ushered in by lead singles “Rebel Girl” and “Restless Souls”. “‘Rebel Girl’ is a space-age love song that combines my enduring obsession for new wave, pop-punk, and anthemic rock and roll music,” says DeLonge. “‘Restless Souls’ in many ways is an honest letter from God to humanity – because life seems to always be looking for ways to inspire, clarify and teach us when things become more difficult.” Of Lifeforms, he adds, “This album for me is a journey through different relationships, different points of view, and how we each have our own life path.” [Limited bonus guitar picks and stickers are available with purchase.]

Soundtrack To Your Life is the debut studio album from former O-Town star, Ashley Parker Angel. Originally released in 2006 by Blackground Records, the album debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold. Primarily written by Ashley Parker Angel himself, the 12-track album features the hit single, “Let U Go”.
