Will Johnson – El Capitan CD/LP (Keeled Scales)

Will Johnson’s new album El Capitan features Will on acoustic guitar with contributions from Britton, Thor Harris, and Lindsey Verrill of Little Mazarn. “These things started years ago at a friend’s dining room table in Oregon,” Will shares. “They built up on desert drives, in hotel bathrooms, in casino bars, and on trail runs. They mortared together into something sensible (to me) over time. Some songs are quite old, and some are pandemic-new. It feels like we’re at the mercy of nature now more than ever, and the quiet of this time seemed right enough to make this record. Drive-By Truckers – The New OK CD/LP (ATO)

Drive-By Truckers released The Unraveling in January 2020 and set out for what was supposed to be a full year of touring. Needless to say, it did not go as planned. The New OK is a phrase Patterson Hood found himself saying a lot these past few months. This new album, made up of songs left over from The Unraveling sessions and new ones written and recorded since, hopefully balances out the darkness of our current situation with a hope for better days and nights ahead. [Limited colored vinyl pressing also available.]

Paul McCartney – Paul McCartney III CD/LP (Capitol)

50 years following the release of his self-titled first solo album McCartney, featuring Paul McCartney playing every instrument and writing and recording every song, Macca delivers McCartney III. Paul hadn’t planned to release an album in 2020, but in the isolation of “Rockdown,” he soon found himself fleshing out some existing musical sketches and creating even more new ones. Before long an eclectic collection of spontaneous songs would become McCartney III: a stripped back, self-produced and, quite literally, solo work marking the opening of a new decade, in the tradition of 1970’s McCartney and 1980’s McCartney II. Recorded earlier in 2020 in Sussex, McCartney III is mostly built from live takes of Paul on vocals and guitar or piano, overdubbing his bass playing, drumming, etc. atop that foundation. McCartney III spans a vast and intimate range of modes and moods, from soul searching to wistful, from playful to raucous and all points between. [A Songbook edition containing piano/vocal/guitar arrangements for all songs from McCartney III and accompanying CD is also available, as well as a stand-alone ‘smoky tint’ cassette edition.]

I Prevail – Post Traumatic CD/2xLP (Fearless)

Recently released on CD – now available on vinyl. Grammy-nominated rock powerhouse I Prevail present a new 17-track collection Post Traumatic featuring live, reimagined, and acoustic versions of songs from their blockbuster 2019 sophomore effort Trauma. Post Traumatic demonstrates the many sides of I Prevail’s musical personality. Live versions of the barnburner “Bow Down” and the unforgettable and contemplative “Breaking Down” capture the band’s onstage prowess and passionate exchange of energy with its diehard fanbase. Elsewhere, a stripped-down version of “Every Time You Leave”, featuring Juno Award-nominated Canadian singer Delaney Jane, shows off the band’s more melodic side. Recorded at the start of the band’s Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino tour, Arctic Monkeys Live At The Royal Albert Hall features 20 of the band’s finest moments to date. “On June 7, 2018 we played a very special show at London’s Royal Albert Hall,” notes the band. “All the proceeds from that memorable night were donated to War Child UK in support of the vital work they do protecting, educating and rehabilitating children who have experienced the trauma of conflict and the horror of war. The situation that was bad in 2018 is now desperate and those children and their families need our help more than ever. To enable War Child UK to reduce their funding deficit and continue their valuable work, we are happy to be able to release a live album, recorded that evening at The Royal Albert Hall. All proceeds will go direct to the charity. We thank all our fans in advance for their support of this release and in turn for their support of War Child UK.”

Jamie Cullum – The Pianoman At Christmas CD (Capitol)

Multi-platinum, Ivor Novello Award-winning musician Jamie Cullum delivers the holiday big band album The Pianoman At Christmas featuring ten original songs boasting a total of no fewer than 57 musicians. The festive set was recorded over five days at Abbey Road Studios, with producer Greg Wells, known for his work with Adele, Dua Lipa, and on the soundtrack for The Greatest Showman. It’s introduced by the first single “Turn On The Lights”, a joyful celebration of the season that sets Cullum’s keyboard work against a symphony of strings, horns, and expansive orchestral percussion. Russell Dickerson – Southern Symphony CD (Triple Tigers)

Co-produced alongside frequent collaborator Casey Brown and a first-time collaboration with legendary producer Dann Huff, Southern Symphony is the sophomore album from multi-platinum recording artist Russell Dickerson and follow-up to 2017’s Gold-certified Yours. “Southern Symphony is hands down the best work I’ve created,” said Dickerson, “It’s the best songs I’ve written. It’s sonically the best we’ve created. This album is ten honest and true tracks that tell the story of how I’ve grown as an artist and a man. I could not be more proud of every song on this album.” Southern Symphony is packed with humble and heartfelt ballads about love and nostalgia matched with his signature “RD party” anthems, including one of Russell’s biggest collaborations to date on “It’s About Time”’ featuring multi-platinum recording artists, Florida Georgia Line.
