Asking Alexandria – Asking Alexandria CD (Sumerian)
Recorded producer Matt Good, Asking Alexandria’s self-titled fifth album is an unbridled celebration of acceptance, of the strength of diversity and the freedom of “leaning into the crazy” (as vocalist Danny Worsnop puts it), instead of struggling for conformity.
AtomTM & Lisokot – Walzerzyklus CD (Raster Music)
Walzerzyklus’ seven tracks, created in collaboration with Russian singer Lisokot, are subdivided into three pieces of two-minutes each and four pieces of three-minutes each, intentionally reflecting the 3/4 time of a classic waltz. Throughout the release, Lisokot’s delicate vocals are put into different relations to AtomTM‘s rather cool machine music, either complementing or contrasting each other. In the same line, the three shorter “leitmotifs” provide the main theme that is taken up repeatedly in the course of the release. [Vinyl edition due January 26.]
Biosphere – Shenzhou [Reissue/2002] 2xCD/3xLP (Biophon)
This expanded reissue of the Norwegian electronic composer’s 2002 album includes a bonus album The Samphire Tower.
Boosie BadAzz – BooPac 2xCD (Atlantic)
New double-disc album from the rapper. The 25-track collection features four guests: B. Will, Yung Bleu, London Jae, and Lee Banks.
John Butcher and Keiji Haino – Light Never Bright Enough CD/LP (Otoruoku)
Keiji Haino, one of the foremost exponents of the Japanese avant-garde, always provides a masterclass in constantly shifting improvisation. John Butcher is a saxophonist of rare grace and power, who has expanded the vocabulary of the saxophone far beyond the conventions of jazz and other musics, to encompass a staggering range of multi-phonics, overtones, percussive sounds, and electronic feedback.
